Article Synopsis
  • * A 20-year-old female with a history of vomiting, dietary restrictions, and misdiagnosis underwent various treatments for both CVS and SMAS, leading to severe malnutrition and anxiety.
  • * The case highlights the importance of recognizing the co-occurrence of CVS and SMAS, and suggests that comprehensive treatment, including nutrition support and therapy, can significantly improve outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Identifying biomarkers to predict relapse in alcohol dependence is crucial but difficult; researchers used neuroimaging to tackle this issue.
  • A study involved 66 male patients in early abstinence who underwent brain imaging and were monitored for 6 months.
  • The use of relevance-vector-machine analysis led to a predictive model that distinguished relapsing patients from those who remained abstinent, achieving high accuracy and a strong area under the curve.

It is generally believed that high-quality Bupleurum scorzonerifolium roots possess specific morphological characteristics, being red, robust, and long with strong odor. However, the scientific connotation of these characteristics has not been elucidated. According to the theory of "quality evaluation through morphological identification", we studied the correlations between appearance traits(the RGB value of root surface, root length, root diameter, dry weight, and ratio of phloem to xylem) and content of main chemical components(volatile oils, total saponins, total flavonoids, total polysaccharides, and seven saikosaponins) of B.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to examine how posttraumatic stress disorder (PTS) symptoms develop differently among children and adolescents after the Lushan earthquake, considering the influence of gender and age.
  • Researchers analyzed responses from 1,623 participants at three time points post-earthquake using a statistical model.
  • The findings revealed four distinct PTS trajectories, with girls more likely to experience persistent impairment, while age did not significantly impact symptom development.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of group cognitive behavioral therapy (GCBT) on social anxiety disorders (SAD).

Methods: A total of 50 patients with SAD were recruited in this study. A survey containing the Liebowitz social anxiety scale (LSAS),the automatic thoughts questionnaire (ATQ),the fear of negative evaluation questionnaire (FNE),the social support rating scale (SSRS),the tridimensional personality questionnaire (TPQ),and the egna minnen barndoms uppfostran (EMBU) was administered before and (one week) after the GCBT,including in the 50 healthy controls.

Objectives: To examine the altered spontaneous brain activity in patients with social anxiety disorders (SAD) before and after cognitive behavior therapy (CBT),and determine the neuromechanism of formation, treatment and recovery of SAD.

Methods: Fifteen SAD patients were treated with an eight-week group CBT.The patients underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) at resting state before and after the treatments.

Background: Schistosomiasis is a global snail-transmitted infectious disease of poverty. Transmission control had been achieved in China in 2015 after the control efforts for over 60 years. Currently, the remaining core regions endemic for Schistosoma japonicum are mainly located in the marshland and lake regions along the Yangtze River basin.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the distribution of snails in Eryuan County, Yunnan Province from 2005 to 2012 to support better control measures for snail-related issues.
  • Using geographic data, researchers employed spatial and temporal analysis methods to understand snail characteristics over time.
  • Results showed a decrease in snail presence overall, but an increase in specific areas, indicating the need for targeted surveillance and control strategies based on localized high concentration regions.

Article Synopsis
  • Schistosomiasis japonica remains a public health concern in certain regions of China, particularly within five provinces known for lake and marshland, and two mountainous provinces; community attitudes and hygiene practices are critical for prevention.
  • A study assessed knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding schistosomiasis in Eryuan County, focusing on two distinct communities through questionnaires and interviews, while also testing for infections.
  • Results revealed a significant knowledge gap, with Yongle community showing only 83.4% awareness compared to 95.5% in Xinzhuang; younger respondents often lacked basic knowledge about the disease, underscoring the need for improved educational strategies to address infection risks.

Non-communicable diseases dominate the public health arena in China, yet neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are still widespread and create a substantial burden. We review the geographical distribution, prevalence, and epidemic characteristics of NTDs identified in China caused by helminths, protozoa, bacteria, and viruses. Lymphatic filariasis was eliminated in 2007, but schistosomiasis still affects up to 5% of local village residents in some endemic counties with around 300 000 people infected.

Article Synopsis
  • This paper discusses the prevalence and characteristics of emerging parasitic zoonoses (diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans) in China.
  • It analyzes the factors that contribute to these diseases, highlighting a lack of systematic research and control.
  • The authors emphasize that public health departments need to focus more on addressing these issues.

Objective: To understand the endemic situation of national surveillance sites in Jiangsu Province from 2005 to 2010, so as to provide the evidence for the prevention and control of schistosomiasis.

Methods: According to the national surveillance protocol, a longitudinal surveillance on endemic situation of schistosomiasis was carried out in 8 national surveillance sites from 2005 to 2010.

Results: In general, the positive rates of blood tests and infection rates of Schistosoma japonicum decreased from 9.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to investigate how posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affects brain function by examining the default mode network during resting state in patients who have experienced trauma.
  • Seventeen PTSD patients and 20 normal controls underwent resting-state fMRI scans to assess differences in brain connectivity, focusing on specific brain regions.
  • Results indicated that PTSD patients had decreased connectivity in some brain areas, like the left superior frontal gyrus, while showing increased connectivity in others, suggesting that these brain network abnormalities may be linked to the mechanisms underlying PTSD.
