- * Desloratadine (DLT), a newer antihistamine, was tested on mice to see if it could reduce PIPN symptoms and showed a dose-dependent improvement in pain thresholds compared to diphenhydramine (DIP), which had no effect.
- * DLT helped protect nerve cells from damage and reduced inflammation in the spinal cord by affecting specific receptors (5HTR), suggesting it may be a beneficial treatment for PIPN in cancer patients.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease with progressive loss of motor neurons in the spinal cord, cerebral cortex and brain stem. ALS is characterized by gradual muscle atrophy and dyskinesia. The limited knowledge on the pathology of ALS has impeded the development of therapeutics for the disease.
