Cochlear implant (CI) users face the decision of whether to upgrade to a new sound processor (SP) with technological advances. We wanted to assess the changes of speech perception ability and aided hearing thresholds as well as subjective satisfaction after upgrade to a new SP. Fifty-five patients who have used CI for 10 years or more and upgraded to a new SP were enrolled.

Objectives: Balloon dilation of the Eustachian tube (BDET) is widely recognized as a minimally invasive treatment for obstructive Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD). We employed a Delphi consensus methodology to develop recommendations for the clinical management of BDET in cases of obstructive ETD.

Methods: A Delphi panel consisting of 26 expert physicians specializing in otology participated in two rounds of anonymous, iterative questionnaires.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the accuracy of two transferring methods, which are the intermediate splint made by computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and the customized maxillary repositioning guide for orthognathic surgery.

Materials And Methods: Patient data regarding virtual surgical simulations were collected. For analyzing the accuracy, the postoperative cone-beam computed tomography and preoperative simulation data were superimposed.

Background: Relapses following orthognathic surgery have been reported to exceed 2% to 50%, depending on multiple factors. This study aimed to analyze the stability after orthognathic surgery in patients with mandibular ramus height asymmetry through 3D reconstruction using Cone-beam CT.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study investigated patients who underwent mandibular setback surgery using bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy.

Despite the importance of the stability of the 2D catalysts in harsh electrolyte solutions, most studies have focused on improving the catalytic performance of molybdenum disulfide (MoS) catalysts rather than the sustainability of hydrogen evolution. In previous studies, the vulnerability of MoS crystals is reported that the moisture and oxygen molecules can cause the oxidation of MoS crystals, accelerating the degradation of crystal structure. Therefore, optimization of catalytic stability is crucial for approaching practical applications in 2D catalysts.

This study aims to analyse the volumetric changes in brain MRI after cochlear implantation (CI), focusing on the speech perception in postlingually deaf adults. We conducted a prospective cohort study with 16 patients who had bilateral hearing loss and received unilateral CI. Based on the surgical side, patients were categorized into left and right CI groups.

Purpose: Single-sided deafness (SSD) presents significant challenges for patients, including compromised sound localization, reduced speech recognition, and often, tinnitus. These issues are typically addressed using interventions such as cochlear implantation (CI) and bone conduction implant (BCI). However, evidence regarding the efficacy of BCI in reducing tinnitus in SSD patients remains limited.

Closed treatment of mandibular condylar fractures has been used for its indications based on the fracture site, fracture status, and patient age. Posttreatment mandibular condyle size is associated with mandibular function; however, a few studies have reported bone remodeling patterns and volume changes in the condyle and glenoid fossa after mandibular condylar head fractures (CHFs). Therefore, volumetric changes in the mandibular condyle and glenoid fossa were analyzed in the present study, and bone remodeling patterns were evaluated after mandibular CHFs.

Background And Objectives: Additional needs refer to specific requirements or support for individuals with disabilities or syndromes. Intellectual ability is a crucial outcome determinant of a cochlear implant. The social quotient (SQ) is an indirect predictor of intellectual capacity and social skills.

Eustachian tube balloon dilatation (ETBD) has shown promising results in the treatment of ET dysfunction (ETD); however, recurrent symptoms after ETBD frequently occur in patients with refractory ETD. The excessive pressure of balloon catheter during ETBD may induce the tissue hyperplasia and fibrotic changes around the injured mucosa. Sirolimus (SRL), an antiproliferative agent, inhibits tissue proliferation.

Background: Mandibular condyle remodeling and displacement are post-orthognathic surgery concerns that can potentially lead to occlusal issues after bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy. This retrospective study examined the relationship between condylar volume changes and position alterations after surgery in patients with skeletal class II and III malocclusions using cone-beam CT.

Methods: The study included 16 patients (6 with Class II malocclusion, 10 with Class III malocclusion) who underwent bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy at Chonnam National University Hospital.

Background: Video head impulse tests (vHITs), assessing the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), may be helpful in the differential diagnosis of acute dizziness. We aimed to investigate vHITs in patients with acute posterior circulation stroke (PCS) to examine whether these findings could exhibit significant abnormalities based on lesion locations, and to evaluate diagnostic value of vHIT in differentiating dizziness between PCS and vestibular neuritis (VN).

Methods: We prospectively recruited consecutive 80 patients with acute PCS and analyzed vHIT findings according to the presence of dorsal brainstem stroke (DBS).

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-sensitive polymer nanoparticles were synthesized for tumor targeting of an anticancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX). For this purpose, chitosan-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) (ChitoPEG)-graft copolymer was synthesized and then DOX was conjugated to the backbone of chitosan using a thioketal linker. Subsequently, the chemical structure of the DOX-conjugated ChitoPEG copolymer (ChitoPEGthDOX) was confirmed via H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra.

Absorbable magnesium (Mg) stents have an attractive biocompatibility and rapid degradation rate, but their degradable behavior and efficacy in the Eustachian tube (ET) have not yet been investigated. In this study, the degradable behavior of the Mg stent in artificial nasal mucus was evaluated. The Mg stents in the porcine ET model were also investigated to evaluate their safety and efficacy.

Several investigations on the feasibility of stent placement into the Eustachian tube (ET) are being conducted. However, stents optimized for the anatomical structure of the ET have not yet been developed. In this study, the efficacy and safety of a self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) optimized for porcine ET morphology was investigated.
