Article Synopsis
  • Staphylococcus aureus protein A (SPA) disrupts bone formation by inducing apoptosis in osteoblasts and affects the differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs).
  • Researchers identified 321 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from SPA-interfered BMSCs and established a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, identifying 6 potential biomarkers (Cenpf, Kntc1, Nek2, Asf1b, Troap, Kif14) that differentiate between normal and SPA-interfered BMSCs.
  • The study revealed that the identified biomarkers are primarily involved in pyrimidine metabolism and showed significantly lower expression levels in the SPA-interfered group,

Purpose: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease which is categorized via destruction of joint cartilage and it also affects the various joints, especially knees and hips. Sinomenine active phytoconstituents isolated from the stem of Sinomenium acutum and already proof anti-inflammatory effect against the arthritis model of rodent. In this experimental protocol, we scrutinized the anti-osteoarthritis effect of sinomenine against monosodium iodoacetate (MIA) induced OA in rats.

Background: Complex acetabular fractures involving the anterior and posterior columns are an intractable clinical challenge. The study investigated the safety and efficacy of oblique-ilioischial plate technique for acetabular fractures involving low posterior column.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of 18 patients operated with the oblique-ilioischial plate technique by the modified Stoppa approach (or combined with iliac fossa approach) between August 2016 and July 2021 for low posterior column acetabular fractures was conducted.

The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the efficacy and safety between the microfracture (MFx) and augmented microfracture (MFx+) techniques for articular cartilage defects of the talus (OLTs). PubMed and EMBASE were searched from January 1950 to October 2020. Only randomized controlled trials, quasi-randomized controlled trials, and observational studies (retrospective and prospective) applying MFx and MFx+ techniques to treat talar cartilage defects were selected.

Background: Large post-traumatic tibial bone defects combined with soft tissue defects are a common orthopedic clinical problem associated with poor outcomes when treated using traditional surgical methods. The study was designed to investigate the safety and efficacy of trifocal bone transport (TFT) and soft-tissue transport with the Ilizarov technique for large posttraumatic tibial bone and soft tissue defects.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 31 patients with massive posttraumatic tibial bone and soft tissue defects from May 2009 to May 2016.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the effectiveness and safety of two knee cartilage repair techniques: microfracture (MFx) and microfracture augmented (MFx+).
  • The analysis included 13 trials with 635 patients, revealing significant improvements in Lysholm's score and cartilage repair tissue score for the MFx+ group compared to MFx.
  • No major differences in other assessed outcomes were found, indicating a need for more long-term research on these treatment methods.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic joint disease that leads to cartilage degeneration, and cell-based therapies like mesenchymal stem cells are being explored as new treatments, though more research is needed.
  • A study analyzed data from 13 randomized controlled trials, finding that cell-based therapy didn’t significantly improve the WOMAC score after 6 months, but did lead to better KOOS scores and pain relief at 12 months.
  • High-dose adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells showed promising long-term benefits without safety issues, suggesting potential advantages over other treatments and calling for further investigation.
