Objective: Prior pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) on chest X-ray (CXR) was commonly found in infertile patients receiving examinations before fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). It was unclear whether untreated PTB would affect pregnancy outcomes after IVF-ET.

Method: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 14,254 infertile patients who had received IVF-ET at Peking University Third Hospital in 2017.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the effectiveness of vaginal progesterone (VP) versus intramuscular progesterone (IMP) for luteal support in young women (ages 18-35) undergoing IVF-ET with a GnRH-antagonist protocol.
  • A total of 1760 patients were analyzed, with the VP group showing a higher live birth rate (38.55%) compared to the IMP group (30.79%).
  • No significant differences were found in ectopic pregnancy or abortion rates between the two groups, indicating that VP may lead to better overall clinical outcomes for this population.

Background: The management of patients with recurrent miscarriage (RM) and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) includes prolonged treatment with heparin and aspirin, starting from the confirmation of pregnancy and continuing until 6 weeks after birth. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between changes in antiphospholipid antibody titers and clinical outcomes. The effect of a shortened treatment regimen was also evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • Cryopreserved embryo transfer (FET) is increasingly common in reproductive technology, yet the associated risk of birth defects has been debated.
  • This study retrospectively analyzed birth defect rates in children from cryopreserved and fresh embryos at Peking University between 2005 and 2008, including comparison by embryo type (singleton vs. twins).
  • Results showed that malformation rates were similar for both groups overall, but cryopreserved embryos from ICSI had a significantly lower rate compared to fresh ICSI, highlighting some differences in outcomes based on the fertilization method used.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare multiple pregnancy rates from frozen-thawed embryo transfers (FET) versus fresh embryo transfers and identify influencing factors.
  • No significant difference in multiple pregnancy rates was found between FET and fresh transfers, but factors such as a woman's age and the number of embryos transferred played a crucial role.
  • Women under 35 can achieve good pregnancy rates by transferring two cryopreserved embryos, which also helps lower the risk of triplet pregnancies.

Objective: To compare the serum HCG levels in pregnant women of routine IVF versus ICSI during fresh transplantation cycles so as to explore whether ICSI influenced the serum HCG levels.

Methods: A total of 934 IVF pregnant cycles during March 2005 to September 2006 were divided into 7 groups: biochemical pregnancy (A), first-trimester miscarriages (B), ectopic pregnancy (C), single-pregnancy (D), twin-pregnancy (E), triplet-pregnancy (F) and heterotopic pregnancy (G). The median of serum HCG level at Days 14 and 21 was calculated among 7 groups.
