A new twofold interpenetrated 3D metal-organic framework (MOF), namely, poly[[μ-aqua-diaqua{μ-2,2'-[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetato}barium(II)] dihydrate], {[Ba(CHNO)(HO)]·2HO}, (I), has been assembled through a combination of the reaction of 2,2'-[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetic acid (TPBA, HL) with barium hydroxide and crystallization at low temperature. In the crystal structure of (I), the nine-coordinated Ba ions are bridged by two μ-aqua ligands and two carboxylate μ-O atoms to form a 1D loop-like Ba-O chain, which, together with the other two coordinated water molecules and μ-carboxylate groups, produces a rod-like secondary building unit (SBU). The resultant 1D polynuclear SBUs are further extended into a 3D MOF via the terephthalamide moiety of the ligand as a spacer.

The title compound was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and powder X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as IR spectroscopy. In the crystal structure of (I), the Ba ion is nine-coordinated by six carboxylate O atoms from five symmetry-related L dianions and one imide O atom, as well as two water O atoms.

In the crystal structure of 1, the Cd ion is six-coordinated by four carboxylate O atoms from four symmetry-related L dianions and two coordinated water molecules, furnishing an octahedral coordination geometry. The bridging L dianion links four symmetry-related Cd cations into a 2D layer-like structure with a 3,4-connected bex topology.

Cerebral neurovascular alterations in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a preliminary fMRI study.

Purpose: Cognitive impairment (CI) is very common in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Cerebral structural and functional abnormalities have been reported in cognitively impaired patients with COPD, and the neurovascular coupling changes are rarely investigated. To address this issue, arterial spin labeling (ASL) and resting-state blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) fMRI techniques were used to determine whether any neurovascular changes in COPD patients.

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the carboxylate groups from two crystallographically independent L dianions link the cadmium cations into a one-dimensional helical secondary building unit (SBU).

Perfusion weighted imaging in the assessment of the pathology and outcomes of lateral medullary infarction.

This series case report aimed to elucidate the underlying pathology and outcomes of lateral medullary infarction (LMI) using perfusion weighted imaging (PWI). Four patients were diagnosed with LMI based on high-field diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI-DWI) and PWI. The national institutes of health stroke scale (NIHSS) scores were recorded on days 1, 7, and 30, and the Barthel index was assessed on days 7 and 30.

SPLUNC1 Is a Significant Marker in Pleural Effusion from Lung Cancer Compared to Tuberculosis.

SPLUNC1 (Short palate, lung and nasal epithelium clone1) protein is an abundant secretory product of epithelia present throughout the conducting airways. Although its function is still not fully known, most studies have focused on its defensive effect in the infection of human airways and its potential to serve as a molecular marker for lung cancer. In this study, we further evaluated the SPLUNC1 expression in patients with lung disease to explore its role in cancer or tuberculosis at the protein level.

Persistent primitive trigeminal artery associated with monocular blindness and external carotid-vertebral artery anastomosis.

In this paper, we present 2 rare cases of persistent embryonic anastomoses. In one case, the patient presented with persistent trigeminal artery along with multiple foci of cerebral infarction as well as central retinal artery thrombosis. In the other case, the patient had direct anastomosis of the vertebral artery with ipsilateral external carotid artery as well as pontine infarction, aneurysm, and unilateral hypoplasia of the vertebral artery.

Clinicopathologic characteristics of 12 patients with vulvar sweat gland carcinoma.

Objectives: The aim of this article was to evaluate the clinical and pathologic characteristics, therapy, and prognostic factors of vulvar sweat gland carcinoma.

Materials: Clinical and pathologic data for 12 patients with vulvar sweat gland carcinoma treated at our institution from January 1958 to April 2009 were retrospectively analyzed. Of the 12 cases, 7 cases were vulvar sweat gland carcinoma, 3 cases were vulvar Paget disease with underlying sweat gland adenocarcinoma, 1 case was vulvar apocrine adenocarcinoma, and 1 case was adenoid cystic carcinoma of the vulvar sweat gland.

But studies on endogenous changes of neurotrophins after SCI are few. In this study we explored by means of immunohistochemistry the localization of NGF, BDNF and NT-3 in the normal adult spinal cord (SC) and the changes in the expression of these chemicals in the ventral horn after right cord hemisection at T9-10.
