Targeted therapy for infantile hemangiomas (IHs) has been extensively studied as they can concentrate drugs, increase therapeutic efficacy and reduce drug dosage. Meanwhile, they can extend drug release times, enhance drug stability, decrease dosing frequency, and improve patient compliance. Moreover, carriers made from biocompatible materials reduced drug immunogenicity, minimizing adverse reactions.

Valproic acid (VPA) stands as one of the most frequently prescribed medications in children with newly diagnosed epilepsy. Despite its infrequent adverse effects within therapeutic range, prolonged VPA usage may result in metabolic disturbances including insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. These metabolic dysregulations in childhood are notably linked to heightened cardiovascular risk in adulthood.

To analyze the clinical characteristics of adverse reactions/events based on chemotherapy in cancer patients, and then explore the potential mechanism of Danggui Buxue Decoction (DBD) against chemotherapy-induced bone marrow suppression (BMS). Retrospectively collected and evaluated were the clinical data of patients in a hospital who experienced adverse reactions/events brought on by chemotherapeutic medications between 2015 and 2022. We explored the potential mechanism of DBD against BMS using network pharmacology based on the findings of the adverse reactions/events analysis.

To investigate the characteristics and functions of yak β-defensin 124 (DEFB124), prokaryotic expression, analysis of gut microbiological and other methods were used in this study. The results showed that the sequence of yak DEFB124 gene was 306 bp in length and 207 bp in open reading frame, which encoded 68 amino acids. Yak DEFB124 protein was highly conserved and had the closest relationship with cattle.

Background: To assess the influence of marital status on the survival of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), we used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to analyze 5477 patients who were diagnosed with NPC from 2004 to 2016.

Methods: Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazard regression were used to analyze the influence of marital status on cause-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS). Subgroup analyses was used to assess the influence of marital status on CSS based on different factors.

Background: Rifaximin, a rifamycin antibiotic, is widely used to treat infectious diarrhea but not commonly used in eradication. With its potential advantages of the agent, some studies were conducted on this topic. The aim of this study is to assess effectiveness and safety of rifaximin-containing regimens and to evaluate whether they are alternative choices for eradication.

In this paper, we first present a multiple-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann (MRT-LB) model for one-dimensional diffusion equation where the D1Q3 (three discrete velocities in one-dimensional space) lattice structure is considered. Then through the theoretical analysis, we derive an explicit four-level finite-difference scheme from this MRT-LB model. The results show that the four-level finite-difference scheme is unconditionally stable, and through adjusting the weight coefficient ω_{0} and the relaxation parameters s_{1} and s_{2} corresponding to the first and second moments, it can also have a sixth-order accuracy in space.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of five rheumatoid arthritis drugs: Sarilumab, Sirukumab, Baricitinib, Tocilizumab, and Adalimumab, using a network meta-analysis from various medical databases until June 2020.
  • - Analysis of four clinical trials involving 2,070 patients revealed no significant differences in effectiveness or side effects among the drugs, with all comparisons yielding p-values greater than 0.05.
  • - Ultimately, Tocilizumab and Sarilumab were ranked higher than the others for both efficacy and safety in treating rheumatoid arthritis.

Background And Aim: Intraabdominal infection (IAI) is a common and important disease worldwide. An increasing number of related guidelines/consensuses have been published in recent years, the quality evaluation for these guidelines/consensuses is necessary to identify lower-quality documents and explore the quality distribution in different time range and areas in this field.

Methods: The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation Instrument tool was adopted to assess the quality of IAI guidelines/consensuses by 3 researchers independently.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofilms prepared by spin-coating have vast applications in biological and microdevice fields. However, detailed knowledge of processing induced nonequilibrium behavior of PVP nanofilms and solutions for minimizing residual stresses toward high-quality films has still been lacking. In the present study, we first explored the rapid film formation process via statistics on nascent holes.

Objective: According to different reports, miR-9-5p either facilitates or suppresses the occurrence of tumors. BRAF is a serine/threonine kinase involved in the MAPK pathway and is a proto-oncogene promoting the progression of many tumors, especially melanoma. The present study aimed to reveal the mechanism of action of miR-9-5p and BRAF in choroidal melanoma (CM).
