  • Endometrial cancer (EC) is a common type of gynecological cancer, and the study focuses on the role of 5-methylcytosine (mC) modification in its development, particularly examining the enzyme NSUN2.
  • The researchers found that NSUN2 is significantly increased in EC due to epigenetic changes, impacting mC modifications and promoting cancer cell growth.
  • By investigating the NSUN2/SLC7A11 pathway, the study suggests that targeting this mechanism could hinder tumor growth and identify NSUN2 as a potential prognostic biomarker for EC patients.

Studies have shown that arginine-vasopressin (AVP) is an important neuropeptide regulating social behaviors. The present work aimed to detect changes in the AVP numbers and level in a valproic acid (VPA)-induced rat model of autism and the underlying mechanism of its pathogenesis. Our results indicated that infants exposed to VPA showed obviously impaired communication and repetitive behaviors with reduced number of AVP-ir cells in paraventricular nucleus (PVN) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores how modifying the surface of curcumin-loaded PLGA nanoparticles using fungal hydrophobin can impact their effectiveness as drug carriers in cancer treatment.
  • Results showed that the hydrophobin-coated nanoparticles had better cytotoxicity and cellular uptake in cancer cell lines compared to non-coated ones, while maintaining a similar drug release pattern.
  • Despite increased antitumor efficacy of the hydrophobin-coated nanoparticles in mice, there was no significant difference in blood retention time compared to the uncoated nanoparticles, indicating the need for further research on tissue distribution.

Salvianolic acid A (SAA) is a bioactive polyphenol extracted from Bunge, which possesses a variety of pharmacological activities. In our previous study, we have demonstrated that SAA effectively attenuates kidney injury and inflammation in an established animal model of 5/6 nephrectomized (5/6Nx) rats. However, there has been limited research regarding the antioxidative effects of SAA on chronic kidney disease (CKD).

  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder with no modifying treatments currently available, prompting interest in herbal medicine (HM) as a potential complementary therapy.
  • A review of 14 randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trials involving 1,311 patients found that HM paratherapy significantly improved various PD symptoms compared to placebo, particularly on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale and quality of life measures.
  • Although HM monotherapy did not show superior effects over placebo in patients who had never received levodopa, HM paratherapy was generally safe and well tolerated, suggesting it may be beneficial as an adjunct treatment for PD.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by impaired social communication and repetitive/stereotyped behaviors. The neuropeptide oxytocin (OXT) plays a critical role in regulating social behaviors in the central nervous system, as indicated in both human and animal studies. We hypothesized that central OXT deficit is one of causes of etiology of ASD, which may be responsible for the social impairments.

The nonapeptides oxytocin (OXT) and arginine vasopressin (AVP) are two key mediators in regulating various aspects of mammalian social behaviours. There are several lines of evidence that genetic variants of the OXT/AVP system exist in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and that this system is dysfunctional at least in some ASD entities. These findings have stimulated the interest to perform studies testing the potential therapeutic application of OXT/AVP in ASD.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a highly heritable neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by impaired social interactions, communication deficits, and repetitive behavior. Although the mechanisms underlying its etiology and manifestations are poorly understood, several lines of evidence from rodent and human studies suggest involvement of the evolutionarily highly-conserved oxytocin (OXT) and arginine-vasopressin (AVP), as these neuropeptides modulate various aspects of mammalian social behavior. As far as we know, there is no comprehensive review of the roles of the OXT and AVP systems in the development of ASD from the genetic aspect.
