Article Synopsis
  • Mild head of bed elevation (HBE) has proven effective in reducing obstructive sleep apnea, but this study examines its practicality using an adjustable bed in everyday settings.
  • The pilot randomized trial included 32 participants split into two groups—one sleeping flat and the other on a mildly elevated bed—to assess any adverse effects and changes in sleep quality using polysomnography (PSG).
  • Results indicated no significant differences in adverse events or overall sleep satisfaction between groups, but notable improvements were found in respiratory distress and apnea-hypopnea indices for those using mild HBE.

Objective: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a highly heritable and common neurological sensorimotor disease disturbing sleep. The objective of study was to investigate significant gene for RLS by performing GWA and replication study in a Korean population.

Methods: We performed a GWA study for RLS symptom group (n=325) and non-RLS group (n=2,603) from the Korea Genome Epidemiology Study.

This paper introduces a new method, bed actigraphy (BACT) for user-friendly sleep-wake monitoring. BACT provides a non-intrusive acquisition of activity data, and in particular does not require that sensors be attached to the subject's body. The system consists of four load-sensing cells supporting the bed, an A/D converter, and a microcontroller with appropriate software.
