Chemical Hip Denervation for Inoperable Hip Fracture.

Background: Hip fracture is a challenging geriatric problem for the health care professionals, especially in patients with multiple comorbidities. In patients with inoperable hip fracture secondary to severe comorbid conditions, the pain can lead to significant challenges in nursing care. With the current understanding of the innervation of hip joint, we are now able to perform selective chemical denervation of the articular branches of femoral and obturator nerves to manage the pain associated with inoperable hip fracture.

Primary exeter total hip arthroplasty in patients with small femurs: a minimal of 10 years follow-up.

One hundred and twelve hips in 101 Chinese patients received primary cemented Exeter total hip arthroplasty (Howmedica, Hong Kong). The implant had a collarless, double-tapered and polished stem. Seventy-five hips in 67 patients were available for assessment.

Complex tibial fracture outcomes following treatment with low-intensity pulsed ultrasound.

A clinical study was conducted to investigate the effect of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (US) stimulation (LIPUS) on the healing of complex tibial fractures. Thirty complex tibial fractures were randomly assigned to the treatment with LIPUS (n = 16) or by a dummy machine (sham-exposed: n = 14). The fractures were immobilized by either internal or external fixations according to the clinical indications.

Continuous pulse oximeter monitoring for inapparent hypoxemia after long bone fractures.

Background: Continuous pulse oximeter monitoring (CPOM) and daily intermittent arterial blood gas (ABG) were used to define the incidence, pattern, and severity of inapparent hypoxemia after long bone fractures.

Method: Twenty long bone fracture patients and 19 normal control patients were studied. CPOM, daily ABG, hypoxic symptoms, and features of fat embolism syndrome were monitored for 72 hours after fractures and after surgical interventions.
