This case report presents a 21-year-old male soldier with a lower extremity injury caused by a heavy machine gun cartridge casing. Failed total carpometacarpal joint prosthesis of the thumb: results after resection arthroplasty.

Loosening of the implant is often treated by resection arthroplasty, and we reviewed 10 patients, mean age 54 years (range 47-63) who were treated by resection arthroplasty after a failed total joint prosthesis.
