Instruments for Evaluating Undergraduate Medical Education in Complementary and Integrative Medicine: A Systematic Review.

The provision of courses in complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) varies widely between medical schools. To effectively improve CIM education, it is essential to use robust evaluation instruments that measure the impact of different educational interventions. This review aimed to identify and critically appraise qualitative and quantitative instruments used to evaluate CIM courses in undergraduate medical education.

Recommendations for reviewing manuscripts of the article types "project report" and "how to" for the GMS Journal for Medical Education.

Objective: This position paper of the Committee on Methodology in Educational Research sets out the criteria for the acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts of the article types and in the GMS Journal for Medical Education, as well as outlining the development of these criteria.

Methods: In a workshop with writers, reviewers, and editors, we formulated and discussed common core elements for articles. We did this by consulting the journal's editorial board on the basis of guidelines for authors and reviewers from other journals and by using examples of articles considered less or more successful.

Delphi studies in social and health sciences-Recommendations for an interdisciplinary standardized reporting (DELPHISTAR). Results of a Delphi study.

Background: While different proposals exist for a guideline on reporting Delphi studies, none of them has yet established itself in the health and social sciences and across the range of Delphi variants. This seems critical because empirical studies demonstrate a diversity of modifications in the conduction of Delphi studies and sometimes even errors in the reporting. The aim of the present study is to close this gap and formulate a general reporting guideline.

Circularly polarized luminescence from Tb(III) interacting with chiral polyether macrocycles.

A straightforward two-step synthesis protocol affords a series of chiral amide-based bis-pyridine substituted polyether macrocycles. One ligand is particularly able to complex terbium(III) ions spontaneously. Upon complexation, interesting chiroptical properties are observed both in absorbance (ECD) and in fluorescence (CPL).

Reporting guidelines for Delphi techniques in health sciences: A methodological review.

Background: Delphi techniques are conducted across different subfields in the health sciences. The reporting practices of studies using Delphi techniques vary, and current reporting guidelines for Delphi techniques focus on individual subfields of the health sciences or on different aspects of research and are therefore of limited applicability. The aim of this article was to identify similarities, differences, and possible shortcomings of existing Delphi reporting guidelines and to draft an initial proposal for a comprehensively applicable reporting guideline.

[The effect of tailored training courses in preanalytical procedures on the quality of laboratory results].

Introduction: In 31 to 75 percent of cases, errors in laboratory medicine have preanalytical causes such as erroneous blood sampling. Erroneous blood sampling may lead to false test results and additional laboratory cost; it may increase analyzing time and endanger the health of patients and employees. In particular, under- and overfilling of blood sampling tubes can considerably distort laboratory values.

From reactive carbenes to chiral polyether macrocycles in two steps - synthesis and applications made easy?

Chiral polyether macrocycles are versatile molecules. For their preparation, original two-step procedures were recently developed and present the advantages of high concentration conditions and simple starting reagents (stable diazo reagents, small cyclic ethers, aliphatic or aromatic amines). Enantiopure materials are readily afforded by CSP-HPLC on a semi-preparative scale.

Clinical reasoning - an approach for decision-making in education and training for biomedical scientists.

Explicitly addressing clinical reasoning (CR) is seen as a promising opportunity in the teaching of the biomedical sciences to enable students to acquire the skills to meet the challenges posed by ever more complex health care processes. Stereoselective deconjugation of macrocyclic α,β-unsaturated esters by sequential amidation and olefin transposition: application to enantioselective phase-transfer catalysis.

The stereoselective synthesis of chiral macrocycles bearing two aliphatic amide functional groups is reported. After the amidation mediated by TBD, a guanidine derivative, the olefin transposition step is performed with a slight excess of t-BuOK. The products are afforded in moderate to good combined yields (up to 59%) and with an excellent syn diastereoselectivity (dr > 49 : 1).

Promoting medical competencies through a didactic tutor qualification programme - a qualitative study based on the CanMEDS Physician Competency Framework.

Attitudes towards interprofessional collaboration in young healthcare professionals.

Successful interprofessional (IP) collaboration has great potential to improve healthcare delivery. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the attitudes towards IP collaboration in young health professionals who had not been exposed to IP learning activities. About one year after graduation from their vocational training, 387 graduates from various healthcare professions [Nurses (nursing and pediatric nursing), Therapists (physical therapy, speech and language therapy), Diagnostic professionals (biomedical science and radiography)], were invited to participate in an online survey.

Circularly-Polarized Electrochemiluminescence from a Chiral Bispyrene Organic Macrocycle.

The first observation of circular polarization of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) from a purely organic derivative is reported. A bispyrene scaffold mounted on a constrained polyether macrocycle displaying intense excimer fluorescence and highly circularly-polarized (CP) photoluminescence has been selected for this purpose. The compound displays an ECL dissymmetry factor of about |8×10 |, which is in good agreement with the corresponding photoluminescence value.
