This study leveraged retrospective data from 1723 groups of pigs marketed within a US swine production system to develop a Wean-Quality Score (WQS) using machine learning techniques. Because contaminated livestock trailers are a significant risk for transmitting viruses between herds, various methods of washing, disinfecting, and thermo-assisted drying and decontamination (TADD) have been evaluated for their effectiveness in inactivating porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) on contaminated surfaces. Information on when to expect negative qRT-PCR results after adequate trailer sanitation is lacking. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ultraviolet C light (UVC) for inactivating Senecavirus A (SVA) on three different experimentally contaminated surfaces commonly found in swine farms. An experimental study under controlled conditions assessed the effect of UVC on an SVA isolate on coupons composed of three surface types: cardboard, cloth, and plastic.
