Background: Depression screening is an important first step to identifying patients who might benefit from depression treatment. Merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS) quality measures can yield financial benefits or losses for healthcare systems, including depression screening.
Objectives: This study aims to (1) develop a team-based care workflow to improve MIPS depression screening in a specialty clinic and (2) modify the workflow to include a virtual nursing and behavioral health resource after the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

To better understand the microbial ecology of CRS, we generated a 16S rRNA gene sequencing profile of sinus mucus from CF-CRS patients. We show that CF-CRS sinuses harbor bacterial diversity not entirely captured by clinical culture.

Methods: Information from a database associated with a large tertiary medical center was used to assess adult patients with CF CRS and non-CF CRS (total, n = 102; CF CRS, n = 31; non-CF CRS, n = 71). Radiologic evidence of neo-osteogenesis was measured using the Global Osteitis Scoring Scale (GOSS), and mucosal disease was assessed using the Lund-Mackay score (LMS) by 2 independent reviewers who were blinded to the patient's disease state.

Background: Indirect evidence suggests that sinonasal secretions are aspirated into the lungs of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), contributing to infection, subsequent tissue damage, and decreased lung function. Our objective is to determine whether sinonasal secretions are transferred to the lungs in patients with CF-related sinus disease and healthy subjects, particularly in the recumbent position and during sleep.
Methods: We performed a prospective, controlled trial to detect pulmonary aspiration of radiolabeled albumin applied to the nasal mucosa of study subjects with chronic sinusitis related to CF and control subjects without sinus disease.
Background: Metastasis of upper airway microbiota may have significant implications in the development of chronic lung disease. Here, we compare bacterial communities of matched sinus and lung mucus samples from cystic fibrosis (CF) subjects undergoing endoscopic surgery for treatment of chronic sinusitis.
Methods: Mucus from one maxillary sinus and expectorated sputum were collected from twelve patients.
Ozena, or atrophic rhinitis, is a chronic nasal process seen in Africa, India, and the Middle East. It is marked by the triad of fetid nasal discharge, crusting, and atrophy, and is often associated with Klebsiella infection. We present cases of ozena with nasal Klebsiella in three unrelated patients, including two east African children and one Saudi adult.

Objective: To assess the prevalence and severity of dysphonia in patients with cystic fibrosis sinusitis. We hypothesized that patients with CF sinusitis, compared with 2 control groups, would have higher self-reported prevalence of dysphonia and greater severity of dysphonia, according to patient-reported outcome measures as well as auditory-perceptual evaluation by expert listeners.
Study Design: Cross-sectional comparative pilot study.
Background: Our previous studies have demonstrated the tolerability and low side-effect profile of office-based sclerotherapy with sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS) for treating recurrent epistaxis due to hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). The objective of this study was to use a prospective randomized trial to determine the effectiveness of sclerotherapy with STS vs standard treatment.
Methods: This prospective randomized trial (conducted from November 1, 2011, through January 31, 2014) involved 17 patients with recurrent epistaxis due to HHT.
Slightly more than 30 cases of fibrous dysplasia involving the clivus have been reported in the international literature, primarily in the neurosurgery and radiology literature. In this article we present a series of 4 cases involving patients with clival fibrous dysplasia. In a retrospective chart review, 4 patients presenting to tertiary care centers from January 1, 2006, to January 31, 2008, were identified and their presenting symptoms and radiologic findings reviewed.

Patients with HHT suffer from unpredictable, recurrent, severe nasal bleeding necessitating emergency care, nasal packing, blood transfusions, and invasive procedures.
Methods: In this retrospective study 7 patients with a history of treatment for recurrent epistaxis due to HHT were treated in an office-based setting with intralesional injection of STS.
