Biochar (BC) was evaluated for nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) removal from aqueous solution to quantify its nutrient pollution mitigation potential in agroecosystems. Sorption isotherms were prepared for solutions of ammonium (NH), nitrate (NO), and phosphate (PO-P) using BC of corn ( L.) and oak ( spp.

For most of the last century, chronic wound care was a practice of passive techniques, designed to prevent the progression of the wound. In the last decade, however, advanced techniques have focused on improving the wound at the molecular level to accelerate wound healing. Successful modalities include tissue-engineered products, hyperbaric oxygen, negative pressure therapy, electrical stimulation, and recombinant growth factors.

The syringe saddle was missing and allowed the syringe barrel to contact the pump case, which decreased the outward displacement of the syringe clamp. Then, the infusion pump falsely detected a smaller syringe size and consequently delivered an increased infusion rate and overdose of propofol to the patient.

This study looks at the first four cohorts of graduates who received IV-E funding from one school of social work. Data on MSW graduates from 1993-1996 (N = 73), as well as survey responses (N = 32), were analyzed to ascertain dimensions of their career development in, and contributions to, child welfare social work.

Pre-treatment variables included in this study are psychosocial, family-related, substance abuse, and special event variables. During-treatment variables are length of stay and parental participation in treatment.

It examines three processes--the evolution of such services, their adaptation to diverse settings, and the striking increase both in the number of programs and their utilization. PES first evolved along three disparate lines--makeshift psychiatric emergency care in the emergency room of the general hospital, ad hoc after-care services in the psychiatric hospital, and the community mental health movement.

Fine-grained clay formations within stable (predictable) deep-sea regions away from lithospheric plate boundaries and productive surface waters have properties that might serve to permanently isolate radioactive waste. The most important characteristics of such clays are their vertical and lateral unifomity, low permeability, very high cation retention capacity, and potential for self-healing when disturbed. The most attractive abyssal clay formation (oxidized red ciay)covers nearly 30 percent of the sea floor and hence 20 percent of the earth's surface.

The injections were administered at 3-hour intervals either during the day or during the night of a photoperiodic cycle of 14 hours of light and 10 hours of darkness. After 6 weeks of treatment with melatonin during the night, both pinealectomized and intact hamsters had reduced testis weight, and pinealectomized hamsters showed decreased levels of serum gonadotropins.

Females injected at 2000 h or 0400 h ceased estrous cyclicity, and males treated similarly at these times had reduced testis weights by the sixth week of treatment. Daily administration of the same dosage of melatonin at 2400 and 0100 h failed to interrupt estrous cyclicity or reduce testis weight.

The matrix is considered to be primary.
