Purpose: This study aimed to measure the prevalence of menopausal symptoms in patients attending a multidisciplinary model of care clinic at their initial clinic visit and their subsequent follow-up consultation using a validated patient-reported outcome measure to assess whether menopausal symptoms after cancer had improved.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of patients attending the clinic in a 12-month period in 2017 (n = 189). Recorded variables included patient demographics, details of index cancer, previous treatments, and menopausal symptom management strategies.
Study Objective: To investigate whether surgeon factors including level of training undertaken in laparoscopic surgery, time in specialist practice, and case volume were associated with surgical morbidity for total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH).
Design: A retrospective cohort study (Canadian Task Force classification II-2).
Setting: A tertiary care setting in Western Australia.
Objective: To describe the outcomes of patients transferred to King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) with signs of labour at preterm gestations.
Design: A retrospective observational study of the 69 cases transferred to KEMH during 2015.
Setting: Patient transfers from all locations across Western Australia (WA) to the sole tertiary perinatal centre in Perth.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the surgical activity of obstetrics and gynaecology trainees and to explore trainees' and trainers' opinions on the current barriers and potential solutions to surgical training.
Methods: Two questionnaire surveys were conducted, one to obstetrics and gynaecology trainees working within the West Midlands Deanery and a second to consultant gynaecologists in the West Midlands region.
The aim of this study was to assess the level of understanding of the role of the tumor marker CA125 in ovarian cancer among doctors of different grades specializing in obstetrics and gynecology (O&G), medicine, surgery, and primary care (general practitioners [GPs]). The study involves a questionnaire-based survey. Two hundred and fifty-nine questionnaires were distributed.

Chronic pelvic pain remains unexplained in one third of women who have negative [normal] findings at diagnostic laparoscopy. This paper investigates the history of chronic pelvic pain after a negative laparoscopy and to assess the effect of negative laparoscopy on self perceived quality of life. The results of this study show that chronic pelvic pain persists in the majority of women who had negative laparoscopy in the medium to long term.

The sensitivity and specificity of CA125 are poor and there are no guidelines produced by the Royal College of Pathologists or the Association of Clinical Biochemists to aid clinicians and laboratories in its most appropriate use.
Aim: To identify the patient population having a CA125 measurement and to determine its contribution to individual patient management.
Pti4 is a tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) transcription factor that belongs to the ERF (ethylene-responsive element binding factor) family of proteins. It interacts with the Pto kinase in tomato, which confers resistance to the Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato pathogen that causes bacterial speck disease. To study the function of Pti4, transgenic Arabidopsis plants were generated that expressed tomato Pti4 driven by the strong constitutive promoters, cauliflower mosaic virus 35S and tCUP.

One-dimensional quasiperiodic optical systems are studied, using a Schrödinger-like equation with a potential V(x)=2lambda(1) cos x+2lambda(2) cos alphax as an approximation to the wave equation in the slowly-varying wave approximation. It is shown that small changes in the parameter alpha produce major changes in the band structure of the system. For certain values of alpha, the band structure consists of many "thin bands" and allows the possibility of dense multiplexing.

Design: A retrospective study
Setting: One consultant-led colposcopy clinic at Leicester Royal Infirmary
Population: Three hundred and ninety-four women referred consecutively to the colposcopy clinic between 1991 and 1992.
Main Outcome Measures: The histological recurrence rate of CIN, length of cytological follow up following treatment related to degree of completeness of excision at initial treatment.
Cytopathology

The aim of this audit was to determine if inadequate cervical smears are associated with significant cervical pathology. Case records for 52 women with three consecutive inadequate smears referred for colposcopy to the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) were retrieved. Sixteen women underwent large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) was identified in six cases.

A markedly elevated maternal serum alphafetoprotein (MSAFP) suggested a diagnosis of endodermal sinus tumour of the ovary. A right salpingo-oophorectomy at 19 weeks' gestation enabled histological confirmation of the diagnosis and suggested a stage 1 tumour.

Peripheral blood cells were assessed by flow cytometry, and cytotoxicity in a standard 4-hour Cr-51-release assay using K562 cells as targets. Anti-CD3 and anti-CD16 mAb significantly enhanced cytoxicity in vitro.

The anti-CD3 mAb OKT3 is imnmunosuppressive at high doses (5 mg/day for 10 to 14 days) in transplant patients. We undertook a preliminary study to investigate the effect of a single intravenous injection of 50 mu g to 0.

Recent attempts to reduce toxicity and retain therapeutic efficacy of rIL-2 have involved low-dose subcutaneous rIL-2 administration and the exploration of synergy with other agents. The anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody OKT3 (Cilag), is immunosuppressive when given at high doses.

Recent reports suggest synergism between systemically administered recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) with responses documented in the treatment of advanced colonic tumours albeit with significant toxicity. Local continuous infusion of rIL-2 into selected sites may reduce toxicity and increase efficacy.
