Background: Anthropogenic habitat change is occurring rapidly, and organisms can respond through within-generation responses that improve the match between their phenotype and the novel conditions they encounter. But, plastic responses can be adaptive or maladaptive and are most likely to be adaptive only when contemporary conditions reasonably mimic something experienced historically to which a response has already evolved. Noise pollution is a ubiquitous anthropogenic stressor that accompanies expanding urbanization.

A large-scale method for the selective depletion of alphabeta T lymphocytes from PBSC for allogeneic transplantation.

Background: We sought to develop a method for the clinical large-scale depletion of alphabeta T lymphocytes from mobilized peripheral stem cells, which would allow the allogeneic transplantation of a graft enriched for stem cells, natural killer (NK) cells and gammadelta T lymphocytes.

Methods: Therefore, we obtained mononuclear cells from either mobilized or non-mobilized healthy adult volunteer donors and incubated the cells with a biotinylated anti-alphabeta T-cell Ab and subsequently with an anti-biotin Ab conjugated with magnetic microbeads. The depletion was then performed using a CliniMACS device.

Although staff development programs have been used to implement clinical services in Ohio hospital pharmacies, the majority of clinical services have been implemented without the use of staff development programs. The results of this study show that less than half of Ohio hospital pharmacy departments provide staff development programs. In those hospitals where the programs were provided, the average number of clinical services implemented through staff development was not significantly different from the average number implemented without these programs.

Differentiation of reversible ischemia from end-stage renal failure in nephrotic children with 131I-hippurate dynamic scintigraphy.

In renal failure associated with the nephrotic syndrome, therapeutic strategy is highly dependent upon the cause of the renal failure. Dynamic hippurate scintigraphy was studied in five pediatric patients. Four had nephrotic syndrome, and of these, three had acute renal failure.
