The following questions were asked: What were the changes in the consumption of vegetable oils in Poland after EU enlargement in 2004? How did the production of vegetable oil change in Poland after EU enlargement in 2004? And has the liquidity of the Polish oil industry changed after EU enlargement in 2004? First, the changes in the oil industry were evaluated.

A first example of a mitochondrial G-quadruplex (mitoG4s) targeted Ru(II) photooxidant complex is reported. The complex, Ru-TAP-PDC3 induces photodamage toward guanine quadruplexes (G4s) located in the mitochondrial genome under hypoxic and normoxic conditions. Ru-TAP-PDC3 shows high affinity for mitoG4s and localises within mitochondria of live HeLa cells.

Introduction: The US Army Load Carriage Decision Aid (LCDA) metabolic model is used by militaries across the globe and is intended to predict physiological responses, specifically metabolic costs, in a wide range of dismounted warfighter operations. However, the LCDA has yet to be adapted for vest-borne load carriage, which is commonplace in tactical populations, and differs in energetic costs to backpacking and other forms of load carriage.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a metabolic model term that accurately estimates the effect of weighted vest loads on standing and walking metabolic rate for military mission-planning and general applications.

Atomic clocks are highly precise timing devices used in numerous Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) applications on the ground and in outer space. In recent years, however, more precise timing solutions based on optical technology have been introduced as current technology capabilities advance. State-of-the-art optical clocks-predicted to be the next level of their predecessor atomic clocks-have achieved ultimate uncertainty of 1 × 10 and beyond, which exceeds the best atomic clock's performance by two orders of magnitude.

The comparative toxicity of six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS)-free and one PFAS-containing aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) was evaluated in an outbred mouse species as well as several in vitro assays. The in vivo toxicological profile of PFAS-free AFFFs in short-term, high-concentration exposures is different than that of a PFAS-containing AFFF. The PFAS-containing reference product induced increased liver weights, while the PFAS-free AFFFs were linked to either decreased or unaffected relative liver weights.

Asymmetric Hearing Loss in Adult Cochlear Implant Recipients: Results and Recommendations From a Multisite Prospective Clinical Trial.

Objective: A multisite clinical trial was conducted to obtain cochlear implant (CI) efficacy data in adults with asymmetric hearing loss (AHL) and establish an evidence-based framework for clinical decision-making regarding CI candidacy, counseling, and assessment tools. Study hypotheses were threefold: (1) 6-month postimplant performance in the poor ear (PE) with a CI will be significantly better than preimplant performance with a hearing aid (HA), (2) 6-month postimplant performance with a CI and HA (bimodal) will be significantly better than preimplant performance with bilateral HAs (Bil HAs), and (3) 6-month postimplant bimodal performance will be significantly better than aided, better ear (BE) performance.

The way in which organisms represent the shape of their environments during navigation has been debated in cognitive, comparative, and developmental psychology. While there is evidence that adult humans encode the entire boundary shape of an environment (a global-shape representation), there are also data demonstrating that organisms reorient using only segments of the boundary that signal a goal location (a local-shape representation). Developmental studies offer unique insights into this debate; however, most studies have used designs that cannot dissociate the type of boundary-shape representation that children use to guide reorientation.

Skull phantom-based methodology to validate MRI co-registration accuracy for Gamma Knife radiosurgery.

Purpose: Target localization, for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) treatment with Gamma Knife, has become increasingly reliant on the co-registration between the planning MRI and the stereotactic cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Validating image registration between modalities would be particularly beneficial when considering the emergence of novel functional and metabolic MRI pulse sequences for target delineation. This study aimed to develop a phantom-based methodology to quantitatively compare the co-registration accuracy of the standard clinical imaging protocol to a representative MRI sequence that was likely to fail co-registration.

The critical question for cognitive scientists is what does cognitive science do, if anything, for people? Cognitive science is primarily concerned with human cognition but has fallen short in continuously and critically assessing the who in human cognition. This complacency in a world where white supremacist and patriarchal structures leave cognitive science in the unfortunate position of potentially supporting those structures. We take it that many cognitive scientists operate on the assumption that the study of human cognition is both interesting and important.
