Rationale & Objective: Dialysis patient care technicians (PCTs) provide essential, frontline care for patients receiving in-center hemodialysis. We qualitatively explored perceptions of the PCT job role, responsibilities, and training among current PCTs, non-PCT dialysis staff, and patients receiving hemodialysis.
Study Design: Focus group study.
Introduction: Although posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression are prominent mental health conditions affecting United States service members, only a subset of individuals with these conditions utilize mental healthcare services. Identifying factors associated with mental healthcare utilization may elucidate military subgroups with unmet mental healthcare needs.
Methods: Cross-sectional survey data from the 2019-2021 Millennium Cohort Study assessment were used to examine correlates of unmet mental healthcare needs among military personnel who screened positive for PTSD or depression symptoms (n=18,420) using modified Poisson regression models.

Given the large number and diverse types of PTSD symptoms, examination of subtypes within the comprehensive PTSD criteria is necessary. This is especially true for subpopulations of active-duty service members such as specialized military units that undergo assessment and selection, receive extensive training, and have significant operational experience and trauma exposure. The current study identified PTSD subtypes in 16,284 U.

Most of our understanding of the fundamental processes of mutation and recombination stems from a handful of disparate model organisms and pedigree studies of mammals, with little known about other vertebrates. To gain a broader comparative perspective, we focused on the zebra finch (), which, like other birds, differs from mammals in its karyotype (which includes many micro-chromosomes), in the mechanism by which recombination is directed to the genome, and in aspects of ontogenesis. We collected genome sequences from three generation pedigrees that provide information about 80 meioses, inferring 202 single-point mutations, 1,174 crossovers, and 275 non-crossovers.

Leveraging data collected in a population-based cohort of individuals with validated SLE, we compared performance and potential impairment across multiple measures of cognition.
Methods: During a single study visit (October 2019-May 2022), times to complete the Trail Making Test B (TMTB; N=423) were recorded; potential impairment was defined as an age-corrected and education-corrected T-score <35 (>1.
Many confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) have examined the structure of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with some suggesting increased complexity (i.e., 6+ factors), while others suggesting a more refined structure (i.

She underwent an osteochondral reconstruction using a lateral femoral condyle (LFC) allograft. This graft was selected because it has a similar radius of curvature to the capitellum.

Objective: We sought to describe fluid cognition and its correlates among individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Methods: Participants (n = 199) were recruited from a population-based cohort for a single study visit (October 2019 to May 2022). Fluid cognition was measured via the National Institutes of Health Toolbox Fluid Cognition Battery (including episodic memory, working memory, attention and inhibitory control, processing speed, and cognitive flexibility domains) and expressed as age-corrected standard scores (mean 100, SD 15).
Many Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan struggle with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Some people with a history of TBI report a constellation of somatic, cognitive, and emotional complaints that are often referred to as postconcussive symptoms (PCS). Research suggests these symptoms may not be specific to TBI.

We sought to provide a comprehensive description and identify correlates of US in-center hemodialysis facility patient care technician staffing patterns.
Study Design: This was an ecological study.
In some mammals, notably humans, recombination occurs almost exclusively where the protein PRDM9 binds, whereas in vertebrates lacking an intact , such as birds and canids, recombination rates are elevated near promoter-like features. To determine whether PRDM9 directs recombination in nonmammalian vertebrates, we focused on an exemplar species with a single, intact ortholog, the corn snake (). Analyzing historical recombination rates along the genome and crossovers in pedigrees, we found evidence that PRDM9 specifies the location of recombination events, but we also detected a separable effect of promoter-like features.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purposes of this study were to (1) identify psychological factors associated with RTS, (2) evaluate the prognostic utility of various psychological factors, and (3) evaluate the available metrics used to assess psychological RTS readiness. It was hypothesized that psychological factors would be identified as critical elements influencing a patient's RTS.
Objective: To report the burden and correlates of poor physical performance in a diverse cohort of individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Methods: In this single-visit study of 446 individuals with SLE from a population-based metropolitan Atlanta cohort, we measured physical performance via the Short Physical Performance Battery (score range 0-12; intermediate-low [<10] vs high [≥10]). We also collected demographic, clinical, and psychosocial variables and examined the associations (adjusted odds ratios [aORs]) of intermediate-low versus high physical performance with these characteristics via multivariable logistic regression.
Background: Cholecystectomy in patients with idiopathic acute pancreatitis (IAP) is controversial. A randomized trial found cholecystectomy to reduce the recurrence rate of IAP but did not include preoperative endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). As EUS is effective in detecting gallstone disease, cholecystectomy may be indicated only in patients with gallstone disease.

Recent Findings: 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)- and psilocybin-assisted therapy have shown promising outcomes in efficacy, safety, tolerability, and durability for PTSD and depression, respectively. MDMA-assisted therapy is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on an Expanded Access ("compassionate use") basis for PTSD, with full approval projected for 2024.
Objective: In a study of physical and cognitive functioning among predominantly Black individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), we compared remotely administered physical and cognitive performance assessments to those collected in person.
Methods: A subset of participants who completed an in-person visit in our parent study from 2021 to 2022 (n = 30) were recruited to complete a second, remote visit within 28 days. Physical performance (measured by a modified Short Physical Performance Battery [SPPB]; range 0-12; subscale ranges 0-4; higher = better performance) and cognitive performance (episodic and working memory adjusted t-scores, measured using NIH Toolbox) were measured at both visits.
Introduction: Endoscopic ultrasonography guided tissue acquisition (EUS + TA) is used to provide a tissue diagnosis in patients with suspected pancreatic cancer. Key performance indicators (KPI) for these procedures are rate of adequate sample (RAS) and sensitivity for malignancy (SFM).
Aim: assess practice variation regarding KPI of EUS + TA prior to resection of pancreatic carcinoma in the Netherlands.
In vertebrates, there are two known mechanisms by which meiotic recombination is directed to the genome: in humans, mice, and other mammals, recombination occurs almost exclusively where the protein PRDM9 binds, while in species lacking an intact , such as birds and canids, recombination rates are elevated near promoter-like features. To test if PRDM9 also directs recombination in non-mammalian vertebrates, we focused on an exemplar species, the corn snake (). Unlike birds, this species possesses a single, intact ortholog.

Additionally, there are implications for healthcare organizations, as those staff who are burned out are more likely to have lower productivity or leave the organization. As with the Covid-19 pandemic, future national emergencies and potentially large-scale conflicts will require similar and likely even larger scale responses from the U.

Screening for excessive drinking can help identify individuals at risk for alcohol-related problems who may require clinical interventions. The brief validated measures of alcohol use such as the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), or abbreviated AUDIT-Consumption (AUDIT-C), are often included in military deployment screening and epidemiologic surveys, but appropriate cut-points must be used to effectively identify individuals at risk.
