Coastal lagoons, acting as transitional zones, are increasingly threatened by microplastic (MP) pollution. This study investigates the spatio-seasonal distribution of MPs in Chilika Lagoon sediments to propose effective mitigation measures. MPs were extracted using density flotation and wet peroxide oxidation, followed by quantitative analysis with a stereomicroscope and qualitative analysis with micro-Fourier Transform Infrared (μ-FTIR) spectroscopy.

The condition may be caused either by surgically induced damage to the bladder innervation or by pre-existing endometriosis-associated nerve damage. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative and postoperative multichannel urodynamic testing (UD) in identifying pre-existing or surgically induced LUTD among patients with DIE.

This prospective study assessed the clinical outcomes and leakage improvement among patients with CIDO following conservative or surgical treatment. : We included patients with CIDO treated at our tertiary referral center from January 2018 to July 2021 in this prospective cohort study.

The negative impacts resulting from those synergistic interactions are threatening coastal and marine ecosystems and the many goods and services they provide. This is particularly pervasive in the coastal zone of the Indian subcontinent.

The surface water and sediment samples were collected at varying depths (12.8-63 m) from 21 locations covering ∼1200 km.

Objective: Dyspareunia is a main symptom of urethral diverticulum in the female population, reported up to 60% of patients. Pain may cease after diverticulectomy as published in previous retrospective studies. To date scarce or no data exists on the postoperative outcome in terms of sexual function.

Plastic problem is of particular concern to the Indian Ocean nations as Asia currently contributes to the highest share of mismanaged plastic waste. Consequently, there is a worldwide interest to understand the distribution and transboundary movement of plastic from this region, which is crucial for implementing management measures.

Particularly, food security must ensure healthy and balanced diets for everyone, but selecting individual indicators to assess all slants covered by this element is not an easy task. Hence, the objective of this paper is two-fold, to review nutrient profiling (NP) models that allow to categorize foods and evaluate diets based on their nutritional quality, and to choose the most appropriate model to be used within a WEF nexus index.

The ongoing randomized phase has met its prespecified primary end point of an improved stringent complete response (sCR) rate after consolidation for D-RVd (reported elsewhere). Final analysis of the safety run-in cohort is reported herein and provides longer follow-up (median, 40.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFood loss and waste (FLW) has become a central concern in the social and political debate. Simultaneously, using FLW as a bioenergy source could significantly contribute to closing the carbon cycle by reintroducing energy into the food supply chain. This study aims to identify best strategies for FLW management in each of the 17 regions in Spain, through the application of a Life Cycle Assessment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFImproving the food supply chain efficiency has been identified as an essential means to enhance food security, while reducing pressure on natural resources. Adequate food loss and waste (FLW) management has been proposed as an approach to meet these objectives. The main hypothesis of this study is to consider that the "strong fluctuations and short-term changes" on eating habits may have major consequences on potential FLW generation and management, as well as on GHG emissions, all taking into account the nutritional and the economic cost.

The addition of daratumumab (D) to RVd (D-RVd) in transplant-eligible NDMM patients was evaluated. Patients (N = 207) were randomized 1:1 to D-RVd or RVd induction (4 cycles), ASCT, D-RVd or RVd consolidation (2 cycles), and lenalidomide or lenalidomide plus D maintenance (26 cycles).

Here, we investigated whether such stable TRCs can be identified and predicted by clinical baseline items. We analyzed data from an observational MDD cohort (Munich Antidepressant Response Signature [MARS] study, N = 1017), treated individually by psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic means, and a multicenter, partially randomized clinical/pharmacogenomic study (Genome-based Therapeutic Drugs for Depression [GENDEP], N = 809).

Of major concern are the short- and long-term radiation-induced injuries to the hematopoietic system that may be induced by high-energy galactic cosmic rays encountered on interplanetary space missions. To collect data on the effects of space radiation on the human hematopoietic system in vivo, we used a humanized mouse model.

Methods: Data from 6,374 BM samples obtained in 32 centers in 2001 and 2011, including core length (CL), were analyzed.
Results: BM included a biopsy (BMB; 93%) specimen, aspirate (BMA; 92%) specimen, or both (83%).
Anemia is the defining feature in most patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), yet defects in erythropoiesis have not been well characterized. We examined freshly obtained bone marrow (BM) samples for stage-specific abnormalities during terminal erythroid differentiation (TED) from 221 samples (MDS, n = 205 from 113 unique patients; normal, n = 16) by measuring the surface expression of glycophorin A, band 3, and integrin α-4. Clinical and biologic associations were sought with presence or absence of TED and the specific stage of erythroid arrest.

It is highly heritable, but the underlying genes remain largely undetermined. In a genome-wide association study of 32,438 adults, we discovered five previously unknown loci for intracranial volume and confirmed two known signals.
