Arthroplasty of the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) has evolved since its inception over 60 years ago. This review examines the indications for surgery, highlights the differences in current arthroplasty designs, variances in surgical techniques, clinical controversies, current implant outcomes data and salvage options for the failed implant. Overall, PIPJ implant arthroplasty is a good and reliable option for symptomatic PIPJ degenerative, post-traumatic or inflammatory arthritis given the proper clinical setting.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to critically assess and quantify the effectiveness of nutrition care interventions provided by dietitians to survivors who have completed treatment for cancer.
Methods: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published from January 2004 to November 2023 reporting the effectiveness of primary care dietetic interventions with adult cancer survivors was conducted.

Community involvement engages, empowers, and mobilises people to achieve their shared goals by addressing structural inequalities in the social and built environment. Through this review, we summarised published information on models, frameworks, and/or processes of community organising used in the context of health initiatives or interventions and documented the outcomes following their use. A systematic scoping review was conducted in three databases with no restrictions on the date of publication, country, or written language.

Feelings of distress and unhelpful thoughts (misinterpretations) of symptoms account for much of the variability in comfort and capability with the severity of the underlying pathophysiology making a more limited contribution. Incorporating this experimental evidence into the daily practice of hand surgery will help us find ways to develop healthy mindsets, to prioritize the alleviation of distress and the gentle redirection of unhelpful thoughts, to avoid unnecessary surgery, and to provide better psychological and social support for people recovering from injury and surgery.

Design: Systematic review.
Data Sources: Database searches: Medline, Cochrane library, Embase and CINAHL.
Objective: Supporting health professionals' dietary behaviours is important to their own health and may influence the quality of care they provide. Understanding health professionals' perceptions on the experiences which have shaped their views on nutrition is important to inform interventions.
Design: A cross-sectional qualitative design utilised in depth interviews via telephone or videoconference.
The progression of diabetes-related complications can be delayed with multifactorial interventions that support healthy behaviours. However, many initiatives have focused on educational or individual-level activities and observed limited or modest sustained improvements in healthy behaviours. A multicomponent approach to behaviour change, which simultaneously considers numerous social determinants of health across multiple socio-ecological model levels, may be required to achieve meaningful health outcomes for people with Type 2 diabetes.

The use of immediate surgical fixation to manage this type of fracture has increased, despite insufficient evidence of improved outcomes over non-surgical management. The SWIFFT trial compared the clinical effectiveness of surgical fixation with cast immobilisation and early fixation of fractures that fail to unite in adults with scaphoid waist fractures displaced by 2 mm or less.

A potential energy surface (PES) obtained from ab initio electronic structure calculations is refined to experimental data, and the resulting energy levels display sub-wavenumber accuracy for all reliably known J = 0 term values under 6500 cm-1. After a small empirical adjustment of the band centres, our calculated (J = 1-6) rovibrational states reproduce 578 experimentally derived energies with a root-mean-square error of 0.

Background: Heavy menstrual bleeding is a leading cause of copper intrauterine device discontinuation. Thus, girls and women with heavy baseline menstrual bleeding may be at increased risk for early copper intrauterine device discontinuation.
Objective: Our objective was to assess if there was an association between baseline menstrual bleeding pattern prior to intrauterine device insertion and discontinuation rate at 12 months among study participants who chose copper intrauterine device at baseline.
Background: Dupuytren's disease is a benign fibroproliferative disorder that causes the fingers to be drawn into the palm via formation of new tissue under the glabrous skin of the hand. This disorder causes functional limitations, but it can be treated through a variety of surgical techniques. As a chronic condition, it tends to recur.

The first purpose of this study was to analyze the interobserver reliability of the OTA/AO classification and the New International Classification for Scapula Fractures. The second purpose was to assess the proportion of agreement among orthopaedic surgeons on operative or nonoperative treatment.

The LPM (Van Straten Medical, Netherlands) proximal interphalangeal joint replacement was introduced to the United Kingdom in October 2000, and 257 implants were sold. We have audited the results of this prosthesis, and obtained data for 164 of the 257 implants. Forty-seven (29%) of the 164 have been revised and another 33 (20%) are showing clinical and radiological signs of failure at a maximum follow-up of 6 years.

These studies were classified by surgical technique and research methodology, and when appropriate, were included in a meta-analysis. The failure rate of arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation using staples or transglenoid suture techniques appeared to be significantly higher than that of either open surgery or arthroscopic stabilisation using suture anchors or bio-absorbable tacks.

There is conflicting evidence regarding the effectiveness of carpal tunnel release in older patients. This is a prospective study which evaluates the impact of age and gender upon symptoms, self-reported disability and surgical outcome in a series of 97 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Symptom severity, hand function and patient satisfaction were assessed using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire and the Patient Evaluation Measure.

The PEM was compared to the DASH questionnaire and to objective measurements of hand function. We also compared its responsiveness to changes following carpal tunnel release with that of the DASH score.

Self-reported severity of symptoms and disability were assessed using the patient evaluation measure and the Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire. Psychological distress was assessed using the hospital anxiety and depression scale.
