is of great public health concern because of its vectorial capacity to transmit various arboviruses such as Zika, yellow fever, dengue, and chikungunya. In California, its expanding geographic distribution has been unrestrained. This urgently calls for innovative tools such as the use of sterile insect technique (SIT) to strengthen invasive control.

The contamination of retail meat with antibiotic-resistant bacteria poses a substantial public health risk because of the potential spread of these bacteria within communities. The contamination of retail meat with extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria was investigated in four cities in Vietnam using real-time PCR, employing ESBL marker genes. This method provides a more comprehensive assessment of ESBL-producing bacterial contamination in meat samples than culture-based methods because it directly detects resistance genes from the extracted sample DNA.

Background: Bite force is one of the important factors that determine the chewing efficiency of molars. This study aimed to investigate the relationship of the maximum bite force (MBF) to the 3-dimensional (3D) arrangement of the first mandibular molars in Angle's class I healthy adults using a digital protocol.

Material And Methods: Subjects were 33 adults (16 males and 17 females) aged 18-25, with Angle's class I occlusions and healthy dentitions.

Background/purpose: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is notorious for its low survival rates, due to the advanced stage at which it is commonly diagnosed. To enhance early detection and improve prognostic assessments, our study harnesses the power of machine learning (ML) to dissect and interpret complex patterns within mRNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) data and clinical-histopathological features.

Materials And Methods: 206 retrospective Vietnamese OSCC formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor samples, of which 101 were subjected to RNA-seq for classification based on gene expression.

Crude oil naphtha fraction C9 alkylbenzenes consist of trimethylbenzenes, ethyltoluenes, cumene, and n-propylbenzene. The major fraction of C9 alkylbenzenes is ethyltoluenes (ETs) consisting of three isomers: 2-ethyltoluene (2-ET), 3-ethyltoluene (3-ET), and 4-ethyltoluene (4-ET). Occupational and environmental exposure to ETs can occur via inhalation and ingestion and cause several health problems.

Background/objectives: Spinal astrocytomas (SA) represent 30-40% of all intramedullary spinal cord tumors (IMSCTs) and present significant clinical challenges due to their aggressive behavior and potential for recurrence. We aimed to pool the evidence on SA and investigate predictors of regrowth or recurrence after surgical resection.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted on peer-reviewed human studies from several databases covering the field of SA.

Botulinum neurotoxin, produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, causes botulism, a severe, rapidly progressing, and potentially fatal condition. Swift detection of the toxin and timely administration of antitoxin antibodies are critical for effective treatment. The current standard for Botulinum toxin testing is the mouse lethality assay, but this method is time-consuming and requires live animals.

Article Synopsis
  • Roasting is commonly used to process SJ buds in traditional medicine, but its effects on their antibacterial properties haven't been thoroughly studied.
  • Fresh SJ buds were roasted using various methods, and their antibacterial effects, polyphenol and flavonoid contents, and antioxidant activities were measured.
  • Dark yellow-roasted SJ buds showed the strongest antibacterial and antioxidant properties, with increased quercetin content linked to enhanced therapeutic effects, despite a reduction in rutin at higher temperatures.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) disorder is recognized as a genetic condition inherited by autosomal recessive fashion. XP results from a defective DNA repair mechanism that significantly increases skin cancer risk. Fifteen Vietnamese patients were investigated with typical clinical manifestations of XP.

Background: In Vietnam, early screening and intervention for post-stroke mental health are limited, with rising demand for home-based rehabilitation due to the scarcity of inpatient programs.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of multifaceted interventions, including Motivational Interviewing and home-based rehabilitation, in improving the mental and physical health of stroke patients.

Design: A randomized controlled trial at the Vietnam National Geriatric Hospital assessed a multi-intervention approach for stroke survivors from 2021 to 2022.

Polyethylene (PE), widely utilized in everyday life, is notorious for its protracted degradation period, extending over decades, presenting an environmental hazard. Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing microorganisms to aid in PE decomposition. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations are valuable tools for understanding specific mechanisms and conducting initial screenings to support experimental research in this context.

A critical host response against viral infections entails the activation of innate immune signaling that culminates in the production of antiviral proteins. DNA viruses are sensed by the cytosolic pattern recognition receptor cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS), which initiates a signaling pathway that results in production of proinflammatory cytokines such as Interferon-β (IFN-β) and activation of the antiviral response. Precise regulation of the antiviral innate immune response is required to avoid deleterious effects of its overactivation.

Objective: We conducted a study titled for Investigation on the characteristics of 24-hour blood pressure (BP) dipping patterns in hypertensive stroke patients.

Methods: Descriptive research, analysis, and comparison, the research was conducted from July 2019 to September 2020 at the Vietnam Heart Institute - Bach Mai Hospital. There are 100 patients diagnosed with idiopathic hypertension who were divided into two groups (without stroke complications and another group with chronic stroke complications > 6 weeks), both groups were similar in age (45-64 years old).

Pediatric patients with recurrent metastatic neuroblastoma (NB) have a dismal 5-year survival. Novel therapeutic approaches are urgently needed. The melanoma cell adhesion molecule (MCAM/CD146/MUC18) is expressed in a variety of pediatric solid tumors, including NB, and constitutes a novel target for immunotherapy.

The intricate interplay of neurotransmitters orchestrates a symphony of neural activity in the hippocampus, with dopamine emerging as a key conductor in this complex ensemble. Despite numerous studies uncovering the cellular mechanisms of dopamine, its influence on hippocampal neural networks remains elusive. Combining in vitro electrophysiological recordings of rat embryonic hippocampal neurons, pharmacological interventions, and computational analyses of spike trains, we found that dopamine induces a relaxation in network synchrony.

The study was conducted on 60 L of suckling piglets out of 775 piglets, of which 227 piglets had diarrhea litres of piglets, and out of 775 piglets, 227 piglets had diarrhoea syndrome. There were 3 interventions in separate trials as follows: 1 and 2 involved antibiotic use (Enrofloxacin and Gentamicin); Trial 3 used the supplement Lectin C (LvCLT3 and LvCLT4) for a treatment period of 3-7 days. Intervention results on 227 piglets with diarrhea showed the highest cure rate when supplemented with Lectin C, with no mortality rate, longer treatment time, and no reinfection rate.

Introduction: Spinal low-grade gliomas (sLGGs) are a group of tumors that arise from glial cells in the spinal cord. Current evidence supporting the use of adjuvant radiotherapy for the management of sLGG is lacking. We hence aimed to compare overall survival rates in patients receiving surgery alone with those receiving surgery with adjuvant radiotherapy.
