Background: Occupational skin diseases are skin conditions that occur or worsen in relation to work and known to be the second most common type of occupational disease affecting individuals in the United States. In Korea, epidemiological reports related to occupational skin diseases are rare. But, no cases of occupational contact dermatitis caused by welding and grinding work have been reported previously.

A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial of Gamma Linolenic Acid as an Add-on Therapy to Minocycline for the Treatment of Rosacea.

Background: A recent study suggested a possible role of skin barrier dysfunction in the pathogenesis of rosacea, which leads to irritation symptoms. Gamma linolenic acid (GLA) is an essential omega-6 fatty acid that is known to restore defective epidermal skin barrier. GLA supplementation has not previously been performed in rosacea patients.

Herein, we conducted a study to compare the efficacy of intralesional injections (ILIs) of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) used alone, or in combination with ESWT for keloids.

Optimal Timing for Surgical Excision of Nevus Sebaceus on the Scalp: A Single-Center Experience.

Background: Treatment of nevus sebaceus (NS) on the scalp is usually surgical excision, but the optimal timing is debatable. The scalp presents significant challenges to the reconstructive surgeon because the lack of elasticity of the scalp makes the repair of defects difficult.

Quadrature laser interferometer for in-line thickness measurement of glass panels using a current modulation technique.

A thickness measurement system is proposed for in-line inspection of thickness variation of flat glass panels. Multi-reflection on the surfaces of glass panel generates an interference signal whose phase is proportional to the thickness of the glass panel. For accurate and stable calculation of the phase value, we obtain quadrature interference signals using a current modulation technique.

The present study determined whether pubertal girls experience adrenocortical and ovarian steroid secretions within their first waking hour before getting their period, similar to those observed in adult females with regular cycles.

Methods: Cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and estradiol-17β concentrations were measured in saliva samples collected after awakening (0, 30, and 60 min after awakening) from 158 normal premenarcheal pubertal girls and 69 adult females with regular menstrual cycles.

Precision spectroscopy of Rb atoms using single comb-line selected from fiber optical frequency comb.

We demonstrated the selection of a single comb-line from an optical frequency comb (OFC) of a mode-locked femtosecond fiber laser with a 250 MHz pulse repetition rate, and applied for precision spectroscopy of Rb atoms at 1529 nm. The single comb-line was selected from the fiber-OFC with a 1.5 GHz mode-spacing using spectral-mode-filtering and femtosecond laser injection-locking.

Clinical predictors of drug response in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate which clinical variables might influence the antiobsessional responses to proserotonergic drugs in a sample of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Methods: Two hundred forty-nine patients with DSM-IV OCD under-gone mean 13-month treatments with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. According to the treatment response, defined as a reductions of the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) total score ≥35%, patients were divided into two groups.

A study of the efficacy of cleansers for acne vulgaris.

Background: Acne treatments are sometimes expensive, and mild acne patients need some simpler form of treatment and, thus, the need for easier and cheaper ways of managing acne is increasing.

Methods: An 8-week, double-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted to determine whether cleansers are effective at producing clinical improvements in patients with acne vulgaris. A total of 13 acne patients applied cleanser A to one half of the face and cleanser B (cleanser A plus triclosan, salicylic acid, and azelaic acid) to the other half, twice daily.

Stability of the LATS2 tumor suppressor gene is regulated by tristetraprolin.

LATS2 is a tumor suppressor gene implicated in the control of cell growth and the cell cycle. Here, we investigated the post-transcriptional regulation of LATS2 expression by tristetraprolin (TTP). Our results show that the expression level of LATS2 is inversely correlated with TTP expression in human cancer cell lines.

A case of generalized argyria after ingestion of colloidal silver solution.

A 58-year-old woman was referred to our hospital due to progressive skin darkening, which began 5 months previously. The patient had strikingly diffuse blue-gray discoloration of the skin, most prominent in sun-exposed areas, especially her face and hands. The oral mucosa, tongue, gums, eye conjunctiva, ears, nail beds, and trunk were also involved.

Absolute frequency measurement of an acetylene stabilized laser using a selected single mode from a femtosecond fiber laser comb.

We performed an absolute frequency measurement of an acetylene stabilized laser utilizing a femtosecond injection locking technique that can select one component among the fiber laser comb modes. The injection locking scheme has all the fiber configurations. Femtosecond comb lines of 250 MHz spacing based on the fiber femtosecond laser were used for injection locking of a distributed feedback (DFB) laser operating at 1542 nm as a frequency reference.
