A multicenter trial compared the effectiveness of levofloxacin and cefuroxime axetil for treating acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) without pneumonia.
Patients received either levofloxacin or cefuroxime for seven days, and both groups showed a similar high clinical success rate around 90%.
Levofloxacin demonstrated a slightly higher microbiologic response, but the difference was not statistically significant, indicating that both antibiotics are equally effective for AECOPD treatment.
