Purpose: The emulsification of silicone oil (SO) is associated with many complications. In this study, we investigate a new SO solvent, perfluorobutylpentane (F4H5) with 1% by volume of perfluorinated polyethers-polyethylene glycol-perfluorinated polyethers (PFPE-PEG-PFPE) triblock copolymer, for removing emulsified droplets.

Methods: An in vitro 3D printed model eye chamber was used to evaluate the efficiency of the three test liquids in removing SO droplets, namely saline, F4H5 and F4H5 with surfactant PFPE-PEG-PFPE.

Aim: Perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) can migrate into subretinal space in detached and stiffened retina with open holes during vitreoretinal surgery. An innovative 'soft shell' technique was introduced to reduce the complication using hyaluronate (HA) to 'cover' the retinal hole. This study aims to study the effectiveness of this technique in vitro.

Cardiovascular instability is a common manifestation of spinal cord injury, especially if the upper thoracic or cervical spine is involved. Here we report a case of lower thoracic spinal tumor who developed acute pulmonary edema postoperatively at post-anesthesia room following surgery. This might be caused by injudicious fluid administration after trying to correct intraoperative hypotension due to neurogenic shock.
