An inverted duplication with a terminal deletion (inv-dup-del) is one of the complex constitutional structural rearrangements that can occur in a chromosome. Although breakages of dicentric chromosome have been suggested, the precise mechanism of this is yet to be fully understood. In our present study, we investigated the genomic structure of 10 inv-dup-del cases to elucidate this mechanism.

Introduction:  Tracheal reconstruction for long-segment stenosis remains challenging. We investigate the usefulness of BIOTUBE, an in-body tissue-engineered collagenous tube with a biodegradable stent, as a novel tracheal scaffold in a beagle model.

Materials And Methods:  We prepared BIOTUBEs by embedding specially designed molds, including biodegradable stents, into subcutaneous pouches in beagles.

Pediatric living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) in patients with advanced portopulmonary hypertension (PoPH) is associated with poor prognoses. Recently, novel oral medications, including endothelin receptor antagonists (ERAs), phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, and oral prostacyclin (PGI2) have been used to treat PoPH. Pediatric patients with PoPH who underwent LDLT from 2006 to 2016 were enrolled.

Intrauterine globe-shaped metreurynter tamponade has been used for some time to treat massive postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). More recently, the Bakri balloon has come into use to treat PPH. It is made of silicon, possesses a drainage lumen, and has a sausage-like spindle shape.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate whether full-term neonatal birthweight is decreasing or not.

Material And Methods: Subjects were selected from the registration database of full-term singletons from a single local practitioner at two time-points, 1991 (n = 750) and 2011 (n = 442). Maternal age, parity, and smoking habits were recorded.

Legionella pneumonia due to exposure to 24-hour bath water contaminated by Legionella pneumophila serogroup-5.

A 79-year-old man was admitted to hospital from his nursing home for treatment of pneumonia, but died 7 days after admission. Legionella pneumonia was diagnosed after isolation of Legionella pneumophila serogroup-5 from sputum culture. The environment of the nursing home was investigated; only water specimens from the 24-hour bath were positive by culture for Legionella pneumophila serogroup-5.

Sarcoidosis associated with psoriasis vulgaris.

We report a 70-year-old patient with sarcoidosis associated with psoriasis vulgaris. He had a nodule on the medial lower lid of his right eye. Oral corticosteroid for the sarcoid lesions and oral PUVA for psoriasis were employed.

[Studies on the conditions of blood sampling and storage for the liposome-based CH50 assay].

The CH50 values in the serum and plasma, especially those from chronic hepatitis caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV), are strongly affected and reduced through a process known as cold activation. We attempted to optimize the conditions of blood sampling and storage for the CH50 assay with a recently developed liposome-based assay kit. The bloods were obtained from HCV hepatitis patients as well as healthy donors.

Vitamin A is involved in estrogen-induced cell proliferation but not in cytodifferentiation of the chicken oviduct.

We examined vitamin A-deficient chicks to determine whether vitamin A affects the estrogen-induced development of the chick oviduct. When oviduct development was stimulated for 5 days with the synthetic estrogen, diethylstilbestrol, the wet weight of the oviduct in vitamin A-deficient chicks was only half that in control chicks. The DNA content in this tissue showed that the decreased oviduct weight in the vitamin A-deficient chicks was caused by the decreased proliferation of oviduct cells.

Optokinetic nystagmus in artificial hemianopsy.

Optokinetic nystagmus in cases of artificial hemianopsy was studied. Hemianopsy was produced by using a combination of a projector, an erasing device and DC ENG. The effect of the condition of foveal vision in hemianopsy, whether reserved or involved, was discussed.
