Genetic analysis and gene mapping of the 4-methylthio-3-butenyl glucosinolate-less trait of white radish were performed and a white radish cultivar with new glucosinolate composition was developed. A spontaneous mutant having significantly low 4-methylthio-3-butenyl glucosinolate (4MTB-GSL) content was identified from a landrace of Japanese white radish (Raphanus sativus L.) through intensive evaluation of glucosinolate profiles of 632 lines including genetic resources and commercial cultivars using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied self-incompatibility (SI) levels in Brassica vegetables to improve F1 seed purity by creating an F2 population from a high SI turnip and a low SI Chinese cabbage.
  • They developed a detailed genetic map consisting of various loci and identified five quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with higher SI, explaining 7.2% to 23.8% of the phenotypic variation.
  • This study is the first to report QTL for high-level SI in Brassica vegetables under insect pollination, providing insights for future marker-assisted selection of stable parental lines.
