Background And Study Aims: Since the introduction of liver transplantation (LTx) in children suffering from liver failure in 1963, many centres around the world have offered this service to children that have no other alternative. The aim of this retrospective study is to analyse the results of paediatric liver transplant in Kuwait over the last decade.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective chart review was done involving paediatric patients during the time period of 1995-2004.
Objective: To assess the prognostic ability of the Cancer of the Liver Italian Programme (CLIP) score and compare it with the Okuda system in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma from the Middle East, where the majority (70%) present with intermediate or advanced stages of the disease and do not receive any tumour-specific treatment.
Methods: The medical records of 145 patients (113 males; mean age, 58.8 +/- 12.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of monoclonal gammopathies in Kuwait and its association with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.
Methodology: Serum protein electrophoresis and measurement of immunoglobulin levels were carried out prospectively in 100 consecutive patients with chronic HCV infection.
Results: Among the 100 patients tested (82 males, 18 females; median age 45 years), 59 had polyclonal band in serum protein electrophoresis while the other 41 had a normal pattern.
