- A study investigated the effects of low-dose combined oral contraceptives (COCs) on anticoagulation factors in 394 Japanese women who started using COCs.
- Results showed significant decreases in free protein S (PS) antigen and activity levels and antithrombin activity, while protein C (PC) activity levels increased during both the active and placebo phases of the COC regimen.
- The study found that certain COC formulations (30 µg ethinylestradiol/desogestrel or 20 µg ethinylestradiol/drospirenone) led to larger reductions in PS levels compared to others, and effects were also noted during the hormone-free intervals.

Design: Prospective study (Canadian Task Force Classification II-1)
Setting: Osaka Central Hospital in Osaka, Japan
Patients: Fifteen women with single lobular similarly-sized ovarian endometrioma.
Interventions: Women who planned to undergo laparoscopic cystectomy of endometrioma were allocated randomly to 3 groups: (1) ordinary laparoscopic cystectomy without injection, (2) laparoscopic cystectomy with the injection of saline solution, and (3) laparoscopic cystectomy with the vasopressin injection technique.
Context: The effect of constant rich iodine intake, especially during pregnancy, has not been well understood.
Objective: The objective was to examine urinary iodine excretion and thyroid function in early pregnancy in Japanese healthy women. We also studied fetal maturation and child development in these women.
