Breast mucoepidermoid carcinoma with a rare CRTC3-MAML2 fusion.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most prevalent malignancy in the salivary gland and is sporadic in the breast. Here, we report a case of breast mucoepidermoid carcinoma with a rare CREB-regulated transcription coactivator 3-mastermind-like transcriptional coactivator 2 () fusion. A 23-year-old female was admitted to our hospital with a left breast palpable mass.

Chemical synthetic approaches to mimic the TRAIL: promising cancer therapeutics.

Apoptosis is programmed cell death that eliminates undesired cells to maintain homeostasis in metazoan. Aberration of this process may lead to cancer genesis. The tumor necrosis factor related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) induces apoptosis in cancer cells after ligation with death receptors (DR4/DR5) while sparing most normal cells.

A phase II study of weekly carboplatin and concurrent radiotherapy in older adults with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LOGIK1902).

Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the standard therapy for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, there is little evidence supporting its use in older adults. Low-dose daily carboplatin combined with thoracic radiotherapy is considered a standard regimen for this population.

Fatal pulmonary embolism after surgery for small intestinal necrosis caused by idiopathic portal vein thrombosis: a case report.

Background: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) both result from partial or complete occlusion of a blood vessel by a blood clot. The prognosis of PVT is generally good; however, PVT with VTE, including pulmonary embolism (PE), has a high mortality rate. We report here a case of PE after surgery for small intestinal necrosis caused by idiopathic PVT.

Implementable assay for monitoring minimum residual disease after radical treatment for colorectal cancer.

Considering the cost and invasiveness of monitoring postoperative minimal residual disease (MRD) of colorectal cancer (CRC) after adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (ACT), we developed a favorable approach based on methylated circulating tumor DNA to detect MRD after radical resection. Analyzing the public database, we identified the methylated promoter regions of the genes FGD5, GPC6, and MSC. Using digital polymerase chain reaction (dPCR), we termed the "amplicon of methylated sites using a specific enzyme" assay as "AMUSE.

Tumor suppressive role of the epigenetic master regulator BRD3 in colorectal cancer.

Bromodomain and extraterminal domain (BET) family proteins are epigenetic master regulators of gene expression via recognition of acetylated histones and recruitment of transcription factors and co-activators to chromatin. Hence, BET family proteins have emerged as promising therapeutic targets in cancer. In this study, we examined the functional role of bromodomain containing 3 (BRD3), a BET family protein, in colorectal cancer (CRC).

The construction of diverse and distinctive self-assembled structures in water, based on the control of the self-assembly processes of artificial small molecules, has received considerable attention in supramolecular chemistry. Cage-like perforated vesicles are distinctive and interesting self-assembled structures. However, the development of self-assembling molecules that can easily form perforated vesicles remains challenging.

Phase II study of IRInotecan treatment after COmbined chemo-immunotherapy for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer: Protocol of IRICO study.

Introduction: Combined treatment using anti-programmed death-ligand 1 antibody (anti-PD-L1) and platinum-etoposide is the current standard first-line treatment for patients with extensive-stage (ES) small cell lung cancer (SCLC). However, the best treatment for relapsed ES-SCLC after the first-line treatment remains unclear. There are some approved chemotherapeutic agents that can be used against ES-SCLC, and treatment with irinotecan is well established as both a monotherapy and a combined therapy, in combination with platinum.

Design and Synthesis of Poly(2,2'-Bipyridyl) Ligands for Induction of Cell Death in Cancer Cells: Control of Anticancer Activity by Complexation/Decomplexation with Biorelevant Metal Cations.

Chelation therapy is a medical procedure for removing toxic metals from human organs and tissues and for the treatment of diseases by using metal-chelating agents. For example, iron chelation therapy is designed not only for the treatment of metal poisoning but also for some diseases that are induced by iron overload, cancer chemotherapy, and related diseases. However, the use of such metal chelators needs to be generally carried out very carefully, because of the side effects possibly due to the non-specific complexation with intracellular metal cations.

Successful multidisciplinary treatment with complete response to atezolizumab plus bevacizumab in a 90-year-old patient with hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence.

Atezolizumab plus bevacizumab is the first-line regimen in Japan for hepatocellular carcinoma following the results of the IMbrave 150 trial. However, the safety and efficiency of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab in older patients, especially in the oldest-old patients aged over 80 years, have not been thoroughly studied and is still controversial. Eighteen months ago, a 90-year-old woman underwent a laparoscopic hepatectomy (S6) for her primary hepatocellular carcinoma (S6, 2 cm).

Pneumovaginoscopy-assisted radical hysterectomy for early-stage cervical cancer: a novel bidirectional approach for tumor spillage prevention and R0 resection.

Objective: This study evaluated the feasibility and outcomes of pneumovaginoscopy-assisted radical hysterectomy (PVRH) for cervical cancer up to stage IIA using a bidirectional fascia-oriented and nerve-sparing surgical approach.

Methods: This retrospective observational cohort study examined the operative outcomes and prognoses of patients who underwent PVRH (n=59) for up to stage IIA cervical cancer. The basic procedure was Kyoto B2 (Viper Type II nerve-sparing) radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy through simultaneous vaginal and abdominal (open or laparoscopic) approaches.

A pilot study of repeated 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia by a newly developed intravaginal irradiation system.

The pilot study was performed to assess the usefulness of a newly developed patientand physician-friendly intravaginal irradiation system for photodynamic therapy with 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA PDT) for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). We used an intravaginal balloon applicator to make the cervix upright and to adjust the position and direction of the laser source in the vagina, resulting in minimal patient discomfort and minimal effort required by the physician during irradiation. Ten outpatients of CIN2 or 3 with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection without a history of HPV vaccination were treated by 5-ALA PDT.
