Histologic transformation from non-small cell to small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a resistance mechanism to immune checkpoint inhibitors. We report herein a case of lung adenocarcinoma who developed liver and brain metastases during adjuvant atezolizumab therapy. The patient underwent a craniotomy to resect a brain metastasis, which was pathologically diagnosed as SCLC.

We aimed to evaluate whether our super-flexible 3D heart models could facilitate preoperative decision-making and surgical simulation for complex CHD. The super-flexible heart models were fabricated by stereolithography 3D printing of the internal and external contours of the heart from cardiac computed tomography (CT) data, followed by vacuum casting with a polyurethane material similar in elasticity to a child's heart.

Infections originating from sites other than the head and neck are rare but are more common in older than in younger adults and have a higher mortality rate than that of infections originating from the head and neck region. CASE REPORT We present the case of a previously healthy 16-year-old female patient who developed bacteremia and pleural effusions with a burn ulcer on the lower leg but had no abnormality in the head and neck region.

Background: According to the gene-environment interactions concept, the mechanism of health impairment can be explained by genetic factors, environmental factors, or their interaction. Physical and mental health effects resulting from environmental exposure may be classified either as toxicity, immune response, and allergic reaction. Moreover, despite the already established therapeutic approaches to bronchial asthma and decreasing mortality due to bronchial asthma, patients with difficult and severe asthma are increasing in number.

This work demonstrates the effectiveness of vigorously stirred lanthanum oxide (LaO) suspensions in catalyzing Michael additions in water. These surfactant-free suspensions offer a counterintuitive yet highly efficient approach compared to traditional methods. Notably, the reactions are ineffective in the absence of water, suggesting a crucial role for the aqueous environment.

Recently, APAP cases have been reported during the course of dermatomyositis. The combination of these two diseases may be coincidental; however, it may have been overlooked because differentiating APAP from a flare-up of interstitial pneumonia associated with dermatomyositis is challenging.

Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells are the industry standard for large-scale mAb production owing to their adaptability and genetic engineering capabilities. However, maintaining consistent product quality is challenging, primarily because of the inherent genetic instability of CHO cells.

However, discontinuation of antifibrotic drugs is a major clinical concern because of the lack of alternative treatment options. Therefore, we identified factors that may be useful for predicting the termination of antifibrotic agents.

Previously, we identified the association of leucine-rich repeat-containing G protein-coupled receptor 6 (LGR6) with oncogenic Wnt signaling, and its downregulation upon β-catenin knockdown in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells carrying CTNNB1 mutations. The aim of this study was to explore the mechanisms underlying this association and the accompanying phenotypes.

Background: Atrial anti-tachycardia pacing (aATP) has been shown to be effective for the termination of atrial tachyarrhythmias, but its success rate is still not high enough.
Objective: The main objective of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of atrial flutter (AFL) termination by aATP and the transition from AFL to atrial fibrillation (AF) during aATP.
Methods: We developed a multi-scale model of the human atrium based on magnetic resonance images and examined the atrial electrophysiology of AFL during aATP with a ramp protocol.

Background: Current implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) require electric conduction with high voltage and high energy, which can impair cardiac function and induce another malignant arrhythmia. As a result, there has been a demand for an ICD that can effectively operate with lower energy to mitigate the risks of a strong electric shock.
Methods: A pair of sheet-shaped electrodes covering the heart were analyzed in three configurations (top-bottom, left-right, and front-back) using a heart simulator.
Objective: To define the effect of the inspiratory method and cough timing on peak cough flow (PCF).
Methods: We investigated the effect of measurement conditions on PCF in healthy subjects (n=10). We then compared obstructive and restrictive pulmonary diseases (n=20) to assess for similar results in respiratory diseases.

Purpose: Tubulointerstitial nephritis antigen-like 1 (TINAGL1) was reported to suppress tumor metastasis and growth in triple-negative (TN) breast cancer. We aimed to determine the associations of TINAGL1 expression with clinicopathological factors and prognosis in breast cancer patients with long-term follow-up.
Methods: A total of 599 consecutive primary invasive breast cancer patients with available tissue specimens from surgery in our hospital were included in the study.
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitors are standard therapeutic agents for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with major EGFR mutations such as exon 19 deletions and a L858R mutation, whereas treatment strategies for cases with uncommon EGFR mutations remain to be fully established. Here, we report a long-term (≥20 years from initial diagnosis) NSCLC survivor carrying EGFR L858R and L747V mutations. The patient received gefitinib monotherapy, systemic chemotherapy/chemoimmunotherapy, and local consolidative therapies for oligometastatic lesions, and responded to afatinib rechallenge with a progression-free survival of 12 months.

This study aimed to assess the effects of LLGL2/SLC7A5 co-expression in predicting prognosis and response to tamoxifen therapy in ERα-positive breast cancer patients according to LLGL2/SLC7A5 mRNA and protein expression in long-term follow-up invasive breast cancer tissues. We identified that low LLGL2/SLC7A5 mRNA co-expression (LLGL2/SLC7A5) was associated with disease-free survival (DFS) compared with other combination groups in all breast cancer patients.

We developed a low protein fermented genmai (brown rice) LPFG) to improve chronic kidney disease (CKD) management. The principal functional features of brown rice are retained in LPFG, lessening the negative spiral of gut-kidney associative spiral attributable to uremic dysbiosis and a leaky gut.

However, the decline in the left ventricular pressure during early diastole is much sharper than that of the Ca transient, resulting in a rapid supply of blood to the left ventricle during the diastole. At the tissue level, cardiac muscles have a distinct characteristic, known as stretch activation, similar to the function of insect flight muscles.
