Adhesion is a technology for assembling carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polymer (CFRP), enabling them to maintain their lightweight and high-stiffness properties. Despite the importance of adhesion, the lack of a molecular-level understanding of the adhesion mechanisms has limited the reliability of adhesion for use in next-generation aircraft and automobiles. Here, we focused on the chemical-state distribution at a practical adhesive interface composed of an epoxy-based adhesive film bonded to an epoxy-based CF matrix.

The ACT spectrometer consists of the hemispherical deflection analyzer with the mesh-type electrostatic lens near the sample. The photoelectron trajectory can be converged by applying a negative bias to the sample and grounding the mesh lens and the analyzer entrance.

In contrast to the physisorbed TCNQ/Au(111) interface, the high-resolution core-level photoemission spectra and the low-energy electron diffraction at the FTCNQ/Au(111) interface show evidence for the strong charge transfer (CT) from Au to FTCNQ and for the Au atom segregation from the underlying Au(111) surface, suggesting a possible origin of the spontaneous formation of the two-dimensional FTCNQ-Au network. The ARPES experiment reveals a low hole-injection barrier and large band dispersion in the CT-induced topmost valence level of the FTCNQ-Au network with 260 meV bandwidth due to the adatom-mediated intermolecular interaction.

Angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) showed a 1D Fermi contour with almost no 2D distortion. Close to the Fermi level (E_{F}), the angle-integrated photoelectron spectra showed power-law scaling with the binding energy and temperature.

Au atoms are known to incorporate into the stepped Si(111) surface to form a Au-Si atomic wire array with both one-dimensional (1D) metallic and antiferromagnetic atomic chains. At a reduced density of Au, we find a regular array of Au-Si wires in alternation with pristine Si nanoterraces.

The photo-induced change in the ARPES peaks is noticed in shape and energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO, C 2p) and HOMO-1 (Co 3d) of CoPc, and is misleading the interpretation of the electronic properties of CoPc films. From the damage-free normal-emission ARPES measurement, the clear valence-band dispersion has been first observed, showing that orbital-specific behaviors are attributable to the interplay of the intermolecular π-π and π-d interactions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe reveal quite small but different intermolecular valence band dispersions of sub-100-meV scale in crystalline films of Zn and Mn phthalocyanine (ZnPc and MnPc) and fluorinated ZnPc (F16ZnPc). The intermolecular transfer integrals are found to be reasonably dependent on the intermolecular distance with the 75±5 meV/Å relation. Furthermore, the angle-resolved photoemission spectra show anomalous dispersive behaviors such as phase flips and local-dimerization-derived periodicities, which originate from the site-specific intermolecular interaction induced by substituents.

The molecular orientation in Au-covered oligo-thiophene films is confirmed by the C K-edge FY-XAS spectra and the applied bias dependence of the spectra is successfully detected for the first time. The present method can give deeper insights into the electronic-state investigation of various real-device systems under operational conditions.

Integrin beta(1)-mediated protein phosphorylation is suggested to be an essential signaling event in these processes. In this study, we have examined the effect of a species of p185 that contains the transmembrane domain and the extracellular domain of p185(c-neu), on growth properties of a human malignant mesothelioma cell line that coexpresses EGFR and erbB2. The ectodomain form of p185(c-neu) enhanced density-dependent inhibition of cell growth and we found that p21 induction appeared to be responsible for this inhibitory effect.
