Purposes: Several retrospective studies have demonstrated the safety and technical feasibility of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery (RALS). The aim of the present study was to clarify the advantages of RALS for rectal cancer by comparing its short-term outcomes with those of conventional laparoscopic surgery (CLS).
Methods: Between April, 2010 and April, 2015, a total of 974 patients underwent proctectomy for rectal cancer.
Background: The aim of the present study was to clarify the advantages of robotic-assisted laparoscopic lateral lymph node dissection (RALLD) for rectal cancer by comparing its short-term outcomes with those of open lateral lymph node dissection (OLLD) in a large series from a single center. In terms of RALLD for advanced lower rectal cancer, there are only a few reports with a small number of cases in retrospective, non-comparative studies.
Methods: From April 2010 to July 2014, a total of 177 patients underwent rectal cancer surgery with lateral lymph node dissection.
Crossed-fused renal ectopia (CFRE) is a very rare congenital renal malformation. This condition comprises several anatomic anomalies, including unilateral ureteral intersection of the midline, anteriorly-placed renal pelvises, and aberrant renal blood vessels, all of which increase the difficulty of colectomy. This report describes a case of laparoscopic sigmoidectomy with sufficient lymphadenectomy for a patient with sigmoid colon cancer and left-sided L-shaped CFRE.

An 82-year-old woman with a past history of a colectomy for colon cancer was admitted to our hospital because of fever and cough. Her chest radiologic images on admission showed bilateral pulmonary infiltration, which suggested community-acquired pneumonia. However, the results of gram and acid-fast staining demonstrated branching acid-bacilli, which suggested pulmonary nocardiosis.
