Effects of Compression Intervention on the Thigh Using Elastic Bandage on Lateral Femoral Pain After Trochanteric Fractures: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.

A trochanteric fracture is one type of hip fracture. Management of postoperative pain after trochanteric fracture that is caused by decreased gliding between tissues in the lateral thigh is not established. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of compression of the thigh using an elastic bandage on trochanteric fracture after surgery.

Relationship between Tissue Gliding of the Lateral Thigh and Gait Parameters after Trochanteric Fractures.

Trochanteric fractures lead to severe functional deficits and gait disorders compared to femoral neck fractures. This study aims to investigate gait parameters related to gliding between tissues (gliding) after trochanteric fracture (TF) surgery. This study implemented a cross-sectional design and was conducted amongst patients who underwent TF surgery ( = 94) approximately three weeks post-trochanteric fracture surgery.

Determining addition pathways and stable isomers for CF functionalization of endohedral Gd@C.

Using density functional theory approaches, we follow the sequential addition of CF functional groups to the surface of the metallic endofullerene species Gd@C. The presence of gadolinium in the interior of the cage strongly influences the addition sequence. The calculations are able to successfully identify end points in the addition sequence at Gd@C(CF) , = 3 and two isomers at = 5, in predictive agreement with experiment.

Crystalline functionalized endohedral C metallofullerides.

Endohedral metallofullerenes have been extensively studied since the first experimental observation of La@C in a laser-vaporized supersonic beam in 1985. However, most of these studies have focused on metallofullerenes larger than C such as (metal)@C, and there are no reported purified C-based monomeric metallofullerenes, except for [Li@C](SbCl) salt. Pure (metal)@C compounds have not been obtained because of their extremely high chemical reactivity.

ChREBP Rather Than SHP Regulates Hepatic VLDL Secretion.

The regulation of hepatic very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) secretion plays an important role in the pathogenesis of dyslipidemia and fatty liver diseases. VLDL is controlled by hepatic microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTTP). is regulated by carbohydrate response element binding protein (ChREBP) and small heterodimer partner (SHP).

CF -Bridged C Fullerene Dimers and their Optical Transitions.

Fullerene dyads bridged with perfluorinated linking groups have been synthesized through a modified arc-discharge procedure. The addition of Teflon inside an arc-discharge reactor leads to the formation of dyads, consisting of two C fullerenes bridged by CF groups. The incorporation of bridging groups containing electronegative atoms lead to different energy levels and to new features in the photoluminescence spectrum.

Liraglutide improved glycaemic instability in a patient with diabetes with insulin antibodies.

Insulin antibodies sometimes cause glucose instability. A 52-year-old male patient was admitted to our department for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. From October 2003, he received insulin treatment for autoimmune pancreatitis and diabetes mellitus, but his hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels gradually reached 8.

A 65-year-old woman had been visiting our department for the treatment of type-2 diabetes mellitus since December 2012. Her glycated haemoglobin levels were well controlled (≈5.8% (40 mmol/mol)) by metformin (500 mg).

A Rare Case of Variant Hemoglobin (Hb Yahata) Suspected Based on Inconsistent Plasma Glucose and HbA1c Levels.

A 52-year-old man presented for an evaluation of worsening glycemic control secondary to glucocorticoid administration. The glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level was 8%, and oral glucose tolerance testing revealed impaired tolerance, whereas the plasma glucose and glycoalbumin levels were normal. The results of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for HbA1c, isoelectrofocusing of the hemolysate and precise HPLC measurements of the HbA1c level supported the presence of an Hb variant, and DNA sequencing of the β-globin gene revealed Hb Yahata [β112 TGT (Cys)→TAT (Tyr)] (heterozygote).
