Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of auditory steady-state responses (ASSRs) to narrow-band chirps (NB-chirps) for estimating hearing levels in children.

Design: Thresholds from the NB-chirp ASSR were evaluated in 30 sedated children with normal hearing or hearing loss. The correlation between the NB-chirp ASSR and pure-tone audiometry (PTA) thresholds was analyzed, and the difference score (DS) between these thresholds was calculated.

CO capture at low concentration by catalysts is potentially useful for developing photocatalytic and electrocatalytic CO reduction systems. We investigated the CO-capturing abilities of two complexes, -Mn(Xbpy)(CO)(OCHCHNR) and -Re(Xbpy)(CO)(OCHCHNR) (Xbpy = 4,4'-X-2,2-bipyridine and R = -CHCHOH), which work as efficient catalysts for CO reduction. Both complexes could efficiently capture CO even from Ar gas containing only low concentration of CO such as 1% to be converted into -M(Xbpy)(CO)(OC(O)OCHCHNR) (M = Mn and Re).

We developed a temporally coded exposure (TeCE) camera that can cope with high-speed focus variations of a tunable acoustic gradient index (TAG) lens. The TeCE camera can execute a very short exposure multiple times at an arbitrary timing during one shot. Furthermore, by accumulating the photoelectrons generated by each exposure, it is possible to maintain the brightness even with a short exposure time.

Article Synopsis
  • The ASSR is a reliable clinical tool for measuring hearing, and if it can detect the recruitment phenomenon, it could help diagnose conditions in patients with developmental disorders and infants.
  • The study involved two groups: one with unilateral hearing impairment and another with normal hearing, analyzing ASSR responses at different sound pressure levels.
  • Results indicated that the impaired ear in hearing-impaired subjects showed greater ASSR amplitude and shorter latency compared to the normal ear in subjects with typical hearing, confirming the recruitment phenomenon's impact.

A novel and efficient method for the Cr(II)-mediated desulfonylation of α-sulfonyl ketone by a Cr-ligand-Mn system has been developed during the course of process research on Halaven (eribulin mesylate). This reaction is dramatically accelerated in the presence of an appropriate bipyridyl-type ligand. This system is applicable to reduction of α-sulfur-substituted ketones.

A novel fluid power actuator called Flat Ring Tube (FRT) is introduced in this paper. The mechanism of FRT is so simple that it only needs a urethane flat tube and water pressure power source. No valves or switches are required.
