Possible correlation of apical localization of MUC1 glycoprotein with luminal A-like status of breast cancer.

Adjuvant chemotherapy has played a major role in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer for many years. To better determine which patient subsets need adjuvant chemotherapy, various gene expression analyses have been developed, but cost-effective tools to identify such patients remain elusive. In the present report, we retrospectively investigated immunohistochemical expression and subcellular localization of MUC1 in primary tumors and examined their relationship to tumor malignancy, chemotherapy effect and patient outcomes.

Immunotherapy against esophageal primary amelanotic malignant melanoma relapse.

Melanoma is a malignant tumor derived from melanocytes. Esophageal melanomas occur infrequently, especially primary amelanotic malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PAMME), which is extremely rare. Here, we report the case of a 74-year-old man with an esophageal amelanotic melanoma on the esophagogastric junction (EGJ) found on esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

Metastatic colonic and gastric polyps from breast cancer resembling hyperplastic polyps.

Breast cancer metastasis to the gastrointestinal tract is relatively rare and is generally found when patients complain of symptoms such as gastrointestinal obstruction. Herein, we report a case with metastatic colonic and gastric lesions from breast cancer, with the formation of mucosal polyps which resembled typical hyperplastic polyps.A 47-year-old woman underwent curable surgery for breast cancer and received standard systemic treatments.

Report of a case: Retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma with rapid progression.

Introduction: Retroperitoneal mucinous cystic neoplasms are uncommon, and little is known about the etiology of the disease. Malignant forms of these are extremely rare. Here, we report a case of primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (PRMC), which demonstrated unexpectedly aggressive progression despite finding only a limited area of adenocarcinoma.

Laparoscopic resection of schwannoma of the ascending colon.

Schwannomas of the colon are rare and difficult to diagnose preoperatively. We report a case of schwannoma of the ascending colon that was resected laparoscopically. A 64-year-old woman was referred to our hospital by her local clinic for further evaluation and management of a submucosal tumor of the ascending colon.

A case of myxoid liposarcoma of the breast.

A 70-year-old woman visited a local hospital complaining of a nodulein the right breast, present since 1 month. She was referred to our hospital for further evaluation. Following mammotome (MMT) biopsy, the nodule was diagnosed as myxoid/round cell liposarcoma.

Possible use of combination chemotherapy with mitomycin C and methotrexate for metastatic breast cancer pretreated with anthracycline and taxanes.

Background: Most patients with breast cancer need anthracycline-based chemotherapy regimens in the adjuvant setting, and an increasing number of them receive taxanes either in this setting or as first-line therapy for metastatic breast cancer (MBC). However, no standard chemotherapy has been fully established for MBC patients pretreated with anthracycline and taxanes.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 48 patients with MBC who had been treated with chemotherapy combining mitomycin C and methotrexate (MMC/MTX), following treatment with anthracycline and taxanes.

[Combined chemotherapy with molecular-targeted agent for breast cancer].

Molecular-targeted agents, trastuzumab, lapatinib or bevacizumab, demonstrated efficacy in patients with breast cancer. Trastuzumab exhibited efficacy and safety for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, in single usage or in combination with paclitaxel, docetaxel or vinorelbine. Trastuzumab is also useful in an adjuvant setting in HER2-positive early breast cancer.
