Objective: Patients with sellar lesions compressing the optic nerve sometimes perceive visual improvement after lesion resection, despite the absence of visual impairment on preoperative ophthalmological examination. This study investigated the indicators of latent visual impairment in patients with sellar lesions.

Methods: Forty-five patients who underwent surgery for sellar lesions compressing the optic nerve with no preoperative visual abnormalities and no change in visual assessment between pre- and postoperative ophthalmological examinations were divided into two groups: 1) patients who perceived recovery of visual function after lesion resection (the improved group), and 2) patients who did not (the unaffected group).

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists are antidiabetic drugs that possess a suppressive effect on the progression of atherosclerosis, and it has been thought that their anti-inflammatory effect is involved in their effect, but the detailed mechanism was unknown. Recently, Ben Nasr and colleagues have proposed easily understood mechanism for the anti-inflammatory effect of GLP-1 receptor agonists. They discovered that some normal T cells express GLP-1 receptors on their cell membranes and showed that GLP-1 has an inhibitory effect on T-cell function.

Background: Arginine vasopressin deficiency (AVP-D) can occur due to various conditions, so clarifying its cause is important for deciding treatment strategy. Although several cases of AVP-D following coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) infection or COVID-19 vaccination have been reported, the diagnosis of the underlying disease has not been reported in most cases.

Case Presentation: A 75-year-old woman who presented with polydipsia and polyuria 9 weeks after contracting COVID-19 and 5 weeks after receiving the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, leading to the final diagnosis of AVP-D 8 months after the first appearance of symptoms.

Aims/introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of tofogliflozin, a selective sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor, on circulating levels of hepatic enzymes, uric acid and hemoglobin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Materials And Methods: We evaluated longitudinal changes in circulating aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GTP), uric acid, and hemoglobin levels in tofogliflozin (n = 169) and conventional treatment groups (n = 170) using data obtained from the UTOPIA trial, a randomized prospective study conducted to evaluate the efficacy of tofogliflozin in preventing atherosclerosis.

Results: Within 104 weeks, tofogliflozin treatment, but not conventional treatment, significantly reduced AST, ALT, and γ-GTP levels.

Aim: To explore differences in imeglimin response among type 2 diabetes (T2D) patient clusters using data-driven cluster analysis.

Methods: Data-driven cluster analysis (non-hierarchical k-means clustering) was performed on randomized, double-blind, imeglimin monotherapy and adjunctive (to insulin) therapy trials based on four baseline variables: (1) disease duration; (2) body mass index (BMI); (3) HbA1c; and (4a) homeostatic model assessment of β-cell function (HOMA-β) (monotherapy trials) or (4b) insulin total daily dose (adjunctive trial).

Results: Four clusters were identified with distinct clinical characteristics in both monotherapy (1-4) and adjunctive therapy (I-IV) trials; clusters 1 and I had lower values across all four indices versus the overall population, clusters 2 and II had a longer diabetes duration, cluster 3 had higher baseline BMI and HOMA-β, and cluster III had higher baseline BMI and insulin total daily dose, while clusters 4 and IV had higher baseline HbA1c.
