Successful Combination Therapy of Optic Canal Decompression and Steroid Administration for Traumatic Optic Neuropathy in a 10-Year-Old Boy.

Traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) is a rare complication caused by head injury in children. TON treatment has employed conservative treatment, steroid administration, and surgical procedures; however, which treatment is preferable remains controversial. We herein present a case of a 10-year-old boy with a TON-complicated head injury after falling from a two-meter-high slide in a park.

Spontaneous Thrombosis of a Hepatic Pseudoaneurysm Following Blunt Liver Injury.

Hepatic pseudoaneurysm (HPA) is a rare complication of liver injury in children. Prophylactic embolization is preferable to prevent life-threatening hemorrhage due to pseudoaneurysm rupture. We present the case of a four-year-old boy who sustained a grade III liver injury from blunt abdominal trauma.

Epidemiology of Pediatric Hand Injury at a Pediatric Department in Japan.

Objective: The hands and fingers are frequently injured among children. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the epidemiological characteristics of hand and finger injuries among Japanese children and identify preventive strategies.

Methods: This was a retrospective review of data of pediatric patients who visited the Kitakyushu City Yahata Hospital in Japan, between April 2018 and March 2019.

Parotid gland atrophy after conservative treatment of a post-traumatic parotid fistula in a two-year-old boy.

A parotid fistula is a rare complication following parotid gland and duct injury. A two-year-old boy with a previous parotid fistula after parotid injury due to a dog bite was successfully treated with pressure-dressing therapy, which is generally non-invasive and tolerable by young children. During follow-up, ultrasonography revealed atrophy of the parotid gland.

Upper airway obstruction in an adolescent: Can airway foreign bodies be missed without self-reporting?

Upper airway obstruction due to foreign body aspiration is rare in adolescents. Diagnosis of the same is difficult, and incorrect, delay of treatment is common in patients with no aspiration history. Herein, we describe the case of a 15-year-old boy who presented with upper airway obstruction because of swallowing chewing gum 4 days before presentation.
