WD repeat domain 74 (WDR74) is a nucleolar protein involved in the early stages of pre-60S maturation in the ribosome biogenesis pathway. In later stages, WDR74 interacts with MTR4, an RNA helicase that functions with the exosome nuclease complex, and is dissociated upon ATP hydrolysis by the chaperone-like nuclear VCP-like 2 (NVL2) AAA-ATPase. We previously reported that ATP hydrolysis-defective NVL2 causes aberrant accumulation of WDR74 on the MTR4-exosome complex at the nucleolar periphery and in the nucleoplasm and that this nuclear redistribution of WDR74 leads to the unusual cleavage of the early rRNA precursor within the internal transcribed spacer 1 sequence.

New and simple crop yield prediction methods are expected to be developed owing to the increasing environmental stress caused by climate change. Algorithms of machine learning could be a powerful tool for predicting crop yield; however, the required feature variables and differences in their prediction accuracy are poorly addressed. The objectives of this study were to identify the best combination of feature variables to predict the yield of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), which is widely grown in central Sudan Savanna under environmentally restricted conditions, and clarify the differences in the accuracy of major machine learning algorithms.

We report the synthesis and characterization of tris(biphenyl-2,2'-diyl)metal complexes of trivalent group 9 elements (, M = Co, Rh, Ir) and their nonplanarly π-extended analogs, tris(1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diyl)metal complexes (, M = Rh, Ir). Single crystal X-ray crystallography reveals the distorted octahedral geometry with an approximate symmetry of trianionic complexes (M = Co, Rh, Ir) and (M = Rh, Ir), which are contacted by three Li ions in the crystal. Complex exhibits yellow luminescence in THF with a photoluminescence quantum yield () of up to 0.

Less than half of all patients diagnosed with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) respond to chemotherapy, and the prognosis of PDAC is poor, which may be mediated by the gut microbiota. We investigated the clinical improvement effects of 1-kestose, a fructooligosaccharide, on PDAC chemotherapy in this single-center, randomized, controlled pilot trial conducted at Fujita Health University Hospital, which enrolled patients with PDAC. The trial included 1-kestose administration and non-administration groups.

The genetic variety and habitats of Camptophora species, generally known as black yeast, have not been clarified. In this study, we re-evaluated Camptophora based on morphological observations and phylogenetic analyses. Because prior investigations on Camptophora only included a few strains/specimens, 24 Camptophora-related strains were newly obtained from 13 leaf samples of various plant species to redefine the genetic and species concepts of Camptophora.

Article Synopsis
  • Proglucagon-derived peptides (PDGPs) like glucagon and GLP-1 play a role in managing lipid metabolism in various body tissues, but their specific function in high-fat diet (HFD) scenarios is not fully clear.
  • In this study, researchers compared PGDP-deficient mice (GCGKO) to control mice after both were fed an HFD for 7 days, focusing on differences in lipid metabolism in the liver, adipose tissue, and intestine.
  • Results showed that GCGKO mice had lower levels of genes involved in fat oxidation, reduced fatty acids and triglyceride content in the liver and fat tissue, and increased fecal cholesterol, suggesting that lacking PGDP may protect against developing fatty

Introduction: When we administer atezolizumab plus bevacizumab treatment to patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, we often encounter inconsistent results between the qualitative dipstick urinalysis and the urine protein/creatinine ratio(UPCR)measurements. In this study, we investigated the relationship between qualitative dipstick urinalysis and UPCR in these patients, and assessed whether incorporating UPCR into the testing protocol could prevent unnecessary interruptions during bevacizumab treatment.

Subjects And Methods: This study analyzed 298 urine samples collected from 61 patients of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, who were treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab at our institution between October 1, 2020, and August 31, 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • G6PD deficiency is a common condition where people usually feel fine but can have problems when exposed to certain things like medications or free radicals.
  • The study looked at special molecules called miRNAs in patients with G6PD deficiency to see if they could help identify hemolysis, which is when red blood cells break down.
  • The results showed that levels of certain miRNAs were higher in people with severe G6PD deficiency, suggesting these could be new ways to tell if someone is having hemolysis even when they don't show symptoms.
