Placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) is a rare type of gestational trophoblastic disease. There is a wide clinical spectrum of presentation and behavior ranging from a benign condition to an aggressive disease with a fatal outcome. PSTT limited to the uterus is in a good prognosis group, but PSTT with metastasis is a lethal disease.

Although it is treated by the intrathecal administration of methotrexate (MTX) and/or total brain irradiation, these treatments are usually ineffective. Prognostic factors for each disease are based on various clinical pathological features, including clinical stage, tumor size, and lymph node metastatis for uterine cervical cancer. In addition to these factors, recent studies have investigated the role of various molecules including tumor markers and Hb level, apoptosis-related molecules as well as various genetic abnormalities as prognostic factor or indicators for uterine cervical cancer.
