Objective: Positron emission tomography (PET) using (18)F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D -glucose (FDG) has a limitation in detecting cerebral metastases; however, the feasibility of detection by inline PET/computed tomography (CT) system remains unknown. We evaluated the accuracy of FDG-PET/CT of body imaging protocol for the detection of cerebral metastases when compared with PET alone and CT alone.

Methods: Fifty patients underwent whole-body FDG-PET/CT scanning including the brain and contrast enhanced brain MR (magnetic resonance) scan.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed how 18F-FDG is taken up by normal testicular tissue using PET/CT imaging across 203 men, investigating its correlation with age, blood glucose levels, and testicular volume.
  • The average standardized uptake value (SUV) for the testicles was found to be 2.44, with significant age-related differences noted, particularly a decline in SUV in older age groups (80-89 years).
  • The findings suggested a mild negative correlation between SUV and age, a positive correlation with testicular volume, and no significant relationship between SUV and blood glucose levels, indicating that normal testicular FDG uptake should not be mistaken for a pathological condition.

Sarcomas with muscular differentiation (eg, rhabdomyosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, pleomorphic sarcoma) are uncommon in the adult urinary bladder. We report the sonographic findings in a case of pleomorphic sarcoma with muscular differentiation arising from the bladder dome that mimicked urachal carcinoma; findings of correlative imaging are also discussed.

Imaging for recurrence and complications of gynecologic malignancies following treatment with radical hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy has become an important determinant for treatment options available to patients. MR imaging and computed tomography can be used to provide evidence of limited local disease recurrence and thereby identify disease that is still potentially curable with adjuvant treatments. This article examines the imaging modalities currently used to detect recurrence and assist in making treatment changes for gynecologic malignancies and presents specific patient findings following definitive primary treatment of uterine cancer and ovarian cancer with radical hysterectomy, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.

We describe the case of a 54-year-old woman with a clinical diagnosis of Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS). The patient had a fever of unknown origin, severe headache, progressing left ophthalmoplegia, and visual acuity disturbance. MR imaging revealed diffuse and thick hypointense lesions on T2-weighted images in the frontal meninges and anterior falx cerebri with diffuse enhancement.
