Background: The Esophageal Hypervigilance and Anxiety Scale (EHAS) is an English questionnaire created in the USA to assess these factors in all patients with esophageal diseases. The aim of this study was to develop and validate the Japanese version of EHAS and investigate the relationship between EHAS scores and symptoms in untreated disorders of esophagogastric junction (EGJ) outflow.
Methods: This prospective study recruited patients who underwent high-resolution manometry (HRM) at six tertiary centers in Japan.
: Gastric cancer (GC) epidemiology and outcomes vary by gender. : We reviewed 18,436 GC patients from 2008 to 2018 and looked for gender differences in clinical characteristics and survival. : The gender proportion was 71% male and 29% female.

The characteristics of 309 patients with idiopathic peptic ulcer were examined. We allocated idiopathic peptic ulcers that did not heal after 8 weeks' treatment (6 weeks for duodenal ulcers) to the refractory group and those that healed within this period to the healed group.

Complications are common in elderly patients who undergo colonoscopy, raising doubts about whether colonoscopy should be performed in the same way in this age group as in younger patients. The aim of this study was to determine the safety of full bowel preparation and colonoscopy in elderly patients with UC.

The aim of this study was to reveal the relationship between symptoms and the subtypes of achalasia defined by the Chicago classification.
Methods: A total of 71consecutive patients with newly diagnosed achalasia were enrolled between March 2009 and December 2017.
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is performed to rule out organic diseases in the diagnosis of esophageal motility disorders (EMDs). Abnormal endoscopic findings can be observed during EGD, which indicate the presence of EMDs. Several endoscopic findings at both the esophagogastric junction and esophageal body that are related to EMDs have been reported.

Although the RDI score has been developed no study has validated a correlation between the RDI score and the activity index of UC. Therefore, this study aims to validate the RDI score prospectively.

A woman in her 30s was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) 4 years ago and treated with tacrolimus, azathioprine, and prednisolone 5mg (PSL). Skin ulcers appeared on the right lower leg during the course of treatment, diagnosed as pyoderma gangrenosum (PG). The patient initially improved with an increased PSL and infliximab dose, but then developed multiple skin ulcers and folliculitis throughout her body.

Red Dichromatic Imaging (RDI), a novel image-enhanced endoscopy technology, has been reported to improve the visibility of deep vessels and bleeding source compared to white light imaging (WLI). We hypothesized that using RDI during the entire cutting process (full time RDI ESD: FTR-ESD), higher R0 resection rate, shorter procedure time and fewer complications could be achieved.

Endoscopy is performed not only to rule out other organic diseases but also to diagnose reflux esophagitis or Barrett's esophagus. Non-erosive GERD (non-erosive reflux disease [NERD]) is called endoscopy-negative GERD; however, GERD-related findings could be obtained through histological assessment, image-enhanced endoscopy, and new endoscopic modalities in patients with NERD.

Methods: The study included patients with JE, diagnosed through HRM performed for suspicious esophageal motility disorders.
Esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection can cause esophageal strictures. Endoscopic balloon dilation is the standard treatment for esophageal strictures, but has complications, including perforation, and sometimes requires surgery. We report a case of perforation during endoscopic balloon dilation for esophageal stricture secondary to esophageal submucosal dissection that was successfully treated conservatively.

The contraction vigor is categorized by values of the distal contractile integral (DCI) in the Chicago classification v3.0; however, reference values of the DCI in the Starlet and the clinical impact of the different reference values in the Starlet and ManoScan on diagnosing esophageal motility disorders are not known.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) could be associated with ILDs, but it is not fully understood if ILDs are caused by GERD or SSc itself.
Methods: A total of 109 patients with SSc who underwent high-resolution manometry were enrolled.
Background/aim: We evaluated the efficacy of vonoprazan (VPZ), a novel potassium-competitive acid blocker, in patients with proton pump inhibitor (PPI)-refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), exhibiting continued pathological esophageal acid exposure (EAE).
Methods: Despite ≥8 weeks of appropriate PPI therapy, patients with -persistent reflux symptoms and pathological EAE times (EAETs ≥4%) were invited to switch to VPZ treatment. After an 8-week-course of once-daily VPZ (20 mg), multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) monitoring was repeated to compare gastric acid exposure times (GAETs), EAETs, and other reflux parameters relative to the baseline values.
