Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to differentiate between chronic ocular Stevens-Johnson syndrome non-responders (SJS-NR) and responders (SJS-CR), analyzing their cytokine profiles for better understanding and treatment options.
  • Researchers analyzed tear samples from 32 SJS patients (24 responders and 8 non-responders) and 25 healthy controls, focusing on differences in 27 cytokines to identify inflammation markers.
  • The study found significant differences in cytokine expression between SJS-NR and SJS-CR, suggesting that non-responders have a pro-inflammatory environment that hampers corneal healing, with PDGF-BB, IL-4, IL-10, and IL-6 identified as potential biomarkers for

Purpose: Infectious keratitis, especially viral keratitis (VK), in resource-limited settings, can be a challenge to diagnose and carries a high risk of misdiagnosis contributing to significant ocular morbidity.

We Aimed To: employ and study the application of artificial intelligence-based deep learning (DL) algorithms to diagnose VK.

Methods: A single-center retrospective study was conducted in a tertiary care center from January 2017 to December 2019 employing DL algorithm to diagnose VK from slit-lamp (SL) photographs.
