Rising movements from bed comprise an important aspect of recovery from the bedridden state; however, they have not been sufficiently investigated using motion analysis studies. In particular, the effect of using the upper limb of the non-rising side before waist flexion on rising movements remains to be analyzed; this study aimed to clarify this effect. Accordingly, motion analyses were performed on rising movements under two constraint conditions, namely raising the upper limb of the non-rising side (upper limb use-condition) and keeping it in contact with the pelvis (upper limb non-use-condition); subsequently, the kinematics and kinematics parameters were compared.

Alkali metal complexes of cyclic dipeptide cyclo Tyr-Tyr have been studied under cryogenic ion trap conditions. Their structure was obtained by combining Infra-Red Photo-Dissociation (IRPD) and quantum chemical calculations. The structural motif strongly depends on the relative chirality of the tyrosine residues.

Background: Drug-coated balloon (DCB) became a potential treatment option for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS); however, factors associated with target lesion failure (TLF) remain uncertain.

Methods: This retrospective, multicentre, observational study included consecutive ACS patients who underwent optical coherence tomography (OCT)-guided DCB treatment. Patients were divided into two groups according to the occurrence of TLF, a composite of cardiac death, target vessel-related myocardial infarction, and ischemia-driven target lesion revascularisation.

Corrosion of Al alloy often starts from the nanoscale corrosion around the surface-exposed Al-Fe intermetallic particles (IMPs) and leads to a serious damage limiting its application range in the automobile industry. To solve this issue, understanding of the nanoscale corrosion mechanism around the IMP is essential, yet it is impeded by the difficulties in directly visualizing nanoscale distribution of reaction activity. Here, this difficulty is overcomed by open-loop electric potential microscopy (OL-EPM) and investigate nanoscale corrosion behavior around the IMPs in H SO solution.

Athletes often experience short-term training cessation because of injury, illness, post-season vacation, or other reasons. Limited information is available about the effect of short-term (less than four weeks) training cessation on muscle strength in athletes. Sprinting athletes must maintain knee extension and flexion strength to reduce the risk of sprint-type hamstring strain injury.

The success of cell transplantation therapy for ischemic stroke is hindered by the low cell survival rate in poststroke brain, due in part to high free radical production and ensuing oxidative stress. We have developed redox nanoparticles to eliminate reactive oxygen species. In this study, we tested the protective efficacy of these redox nanoparticles in cell culture and a mouse model of ischemic stroke.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) for cardiac computed tomography (CT) have shown great potential in enhancing diagnosis and prognosis prediction in patients with cardiovascular disease. Deep learning, a type of machine learning, has revolutionized radiology by enabling automatic feature extraction and learning from large datasets, particularly in image-based applications. Thus, AI-driven techniques have enabled a faster analysis of cardiac CT examinations than when they are analyzed by humans, while maintaining reproducibility.

Currently, hip braces are recommended and typically worn by femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) patients after hip arthroscopic surgery. However, there is currently a lack of literature regarding the biomechanical effectiveness of hip braces. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical effect of hip braces after hip arthroscopic surgery for FAI.

Purpose: It remains unclear whether simultaneous bilateral total hip arthroplasty (SimBTHA) or staged bilateral total hip arthroplasty (StaBTHA) is clinically superior. No study has compared these two procedures matching surgical approach and patient background. This study aimed to clarify the differences between SimBTHA using direct anterior approach (SimBTHA-DAA) and StaBTHA using the direct anterior approach (StaBTHA-DAA).

Introduction: Intermuscular implantations of subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICD) have been recommended, but the position of the anterior border of the latissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) has not previously been evaluated in establishing an incision line to facilitate the intermuscular approach. The objective of this study is to evalua the position and trend of the anterior border of the LDM in patients who are candidates for implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.

Methods: The distance from the back to the anterior border of the LDM (A) and the anterior-posterior width of the chest wall (B) were measured on computed tomography retrospectively, and the ratio (=A/B) was used as the position of the anterior border of the LDM.

The naturally occurring ionophore valinomycin (VM) selectively transports K across the biological membrane, which makes VM a plausible antivirus and antibacterial candidate. The K selectivity of VM was rationalized based on a size-matching model despite structural inconsistency between experiments and computations. In this study, we investigated the conformations of the NaVM complex with 1-10 water molecules using cryogenic ion trap infrared spectroscopy with computational calculations.

Alzheimer's disease is associated with the aggregation of the misfolded neuronal peptide, amyloid-β42 (Aβ42). Evidence has suggested that several reasons are responsible for the toxicity caused by the aggregation of Aβ42, including the conformational restriction of Aβ42. In this study, one of the toxic conformers of Aβ42, which contains a Glu-to-Pro substitution (E22P-Aβ42), was explored using atomic force microscopy and molecular docking to study the aggregation dynamics.

Article Synopsis
  • * Results indicated significant reductions in monthly migraine days (MMDs) and weekly migraine days (WMDs) from baseline to the first month, achieving a ≥50% response rate (RR) of 50.9% by month 3.
  • * The study concluded that galcanezumab not only had a notable impact within the first week but also that the response rate during that week could effectively predict the overall response at three months.

Background And Aims: Studies have recently revealed the linoleic acid metabolic pathway of Lactobacillus plantarum, the representative gut bacterium in human gastrointestinal tract, and the anti-inflammatory effects of metabolites in this pathway. However, no clinical trials have evaluated the association between these metabolites and revascularization in patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent PCI with subsequent revascularization or coronary angiography (CAG) without revascularization.

Article Synopsis
  • Congenital protein C deficiency can lead to dangerous blood clots that may cause serious vision and health issues, especially in infants.
  • Two cases involving infants with this condition required eye surgeries (lensectomies and vitrectomies) to address retinal detachments; outcomes varied, with one eye stabilizing and the other facing complications.
  • Early diagnosis and intervention in infants with this deficiency are crucial to prevent the rapid worsening of retinal detachments and protect their sight.

Purpose: Near-infrared photoimmunotherapy (NIR-PIT) is a new cancer phototherapy using an antibody-photosensitizer conjugate (Ab-IR700). By NIR light irradiation, Ab-IR700 forms a water-insoluble aggregation on the plasma membrane of cancer cells, leading to lethal membrane damage of cancer cells with high selectivity. However, IR700 produces singlet oxygen, which induces non-selective inflammatory responses such as edema in normal tissues around the tumor.
