Pregnancy- and lactation-associated osteoporosis (PLO) is a rare type of premenopausal osteoporosis, typically occurring during the third trimester of pregnancy and the early postpartum lactation period. This report presents a case involving severe multiple vertebral fractures due to PLO with low bone mineral density (BMD) and heightened bone turnover. A 39-year-old primiparous Japanese woman reported low back pain (LBP) starting at 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Methods: This study retrospectively evaluated all intravenous GBCA injections in MRI studies at a single institution from January 2012 to September 2019. First-time AARs in patients without a past history of AARs and risk factors were assessed using multivariable regression models with generalized estimating equations.

Background/aims: Extracellular acidic conditions impair cellular activities; however, some cancer cells drive cellular signaling to adapt to the acidic environment. It remains unclear how ovarian cancer cells sense changes in extracellular pH. This study was aimed at characterizing acid-inducible currents in an ovarian cancer cell line and evaluating the involvement of these currents in cell viability.

Here, we present a case of idiopathic hypersomnia (IH), a CDH, wherein early diagnosis was aided by a video footage of a spontaneous sleep attack.
Patient Concerns: A 21-year-old man lost consciousness while driving and experienced an accident.
I-ioflupane single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a highly sensitive and established neuroimaging technique for parkinsonian syndromes (PS). However, differentiating PS by visual inspection or analysis of regions of interest is challenging. To date, image analysis has not been able to differentiate dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) from Parkinson's disease with dementia (PDD).

Methods: This retrospective study included all patients undergoing contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) with intravenous ICM administration (iopamidol, iohexol, iomeprol, iopromide, ioversol) at our hospital between April 2016 and September 2021. Medical records of patients who experienced anaphylaxis were reviewed, and the multivariable regression model using generalized estimating equations was employed to eliminate the effect of intrapatient correlation.
Purpose: To analyze the appropriateness of primary response for anaphylaxis due to iodinated contrast media (ICM) or gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCA).
Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included all patients in whom intravenous contrast agents (five types of ICMs and four types of GBCAs) were administered at our hospital between April 2016 and September 2021. For the patients who developed anaphylaxis, we obtained data on the time records of contrast injection, anaphylaxis onset, and intramuscular adrenaline (epinephrine) administration.
The affiliative relationship between humans and dogs is compared to a mother-infant attachment relationship. We hypothesized that dog's attachment behavior in negative emotional state aroused the owner's attention toward the dog, that is, reduced parasympathetic activity. We measured heart rate variability in both dogs and humans during the Strange Situation Test to examine whether the owners' parasympathetic activity was decreased by being gazed at by their dogs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAberrant DNA methylation is associated with oncogenesis of various human cancers, including pancreatic cancer (PC). PC is the seventh most common cancer, and obesity is a known high-risk factor. However, whether obesity influences DNA methylation in pancreatic exocrine cells and if this influences PC development remain unclear.

To develop a more effective method for maximizing learning outcomes, we extended the course's schedule from one day (1d) to two days (2d) per theme, evaluated self-administered questionnaires between two different years (pre and post-change), and examined whether the increased course length affected learning outcomes. Within the 2018 curriculum year, every theme of the course was completed in a day, including experiments in the wet lab and discussions.

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of KPR-5714, a novel and selective TRPM8 antagonist, on voiding dysfunction induced by bladder afferent hyperactivity via mechanosensitive C-fibers in rats.
Methods: The effects of intragastric administration of KPR-5714 on bladder overactivity induced by intravesical instillation of 10 mM ATP were investigated using cystometry in conscious female rats.
Introduction: This study aimed to assess the utility of quantitative high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) for determining the clinical course of anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 antibody-positive dermatomyositis-associated interstitial lung disease (MDA5 ILD).
Method: This study retrospectively analyzed the data of 34 patients with MDA5 ILD to determine the association between the clinical findings and extent of ILD via quantitative CT analysis at baseline and short-term follow-up. Quantified HRCT scores were evaluated as the lung severity score (LSS), percentage of opacity, and percentage of high opacity.

Implantation is a highly organized process that involves an interaction between a competent blastocyst and a receptive uterus. Despite significant research efforts, the molecular mechanisms governing this complex process remain elusive. Here, we investigated the effect of dicalcin, an S100-like Ca-binding protein, on the attachment of choriocarcinoma cells (BeWo cells) onto a monolayer of endometrial carcinoma cells (Ishikawa cells).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8), a temperature-sensitive ion channel responsible for detecting cold, is an attractive molecular target for the treatment of pain and other disorders. We have previously discovered a selective TRPM8 antagonist, KPR-2579, which inhibited bladder afferent hyperactivity induced by acetic acid instillation into the bladder. However, additional studies have revealed potential adverse effects with KPR-2579, such as the formation of a reactive metabolite, CYP3A4 induction, and convulsions.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of inhibitory circuits to the emergence of the b- and d-waves in the full-field ERG in the newt retina. To this end, we investigated the effects of several synaptic transmission blockers on the amplitudes of the b- and d-waves in the ERG obtained from newt eyecup preparations.

Methods: In our institution, we instructed patients to fast one meal before contrast-enhanced CT examinations. However, we abolished these instructions at the end of March 2019, and solid food intake was not restricted before contrast-enhanced CT after this date.

The purpose of this study was to improve the contrast between the nerves and blood by reconsidering the imaging parameters of the sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts using different flip angle evolutions (SPACE) method, and to compare it with conventional methods, including the constructive interference in steady state (CISS) and T-weighted SPACE (T2-SPACE) methods. In the phantom study, the repetition time (TR), echo time (TE), flip angle (FA), and turbo factor (TF) of SPACE were varied using the restore pulse. The parameters for which the nerve-blood contrast (C1) and cerebrospinal fluid-nerve contrast (C2) were equal were selected.

Transient receptor potential (TRP) melastatin 8 (TRPM8) is a temperature-sensing ion channel mainly expressed in primary sensory neurons (A-fibers and C-fibers in the dorsal root ganglion). In this report, we characterized KPR-5714 (-[()-3,3-difluoro-4-hydroxy-1-(2-1,2,3-triazol-2-yl)butan-2-yl]-3-fluoro-2-[5-(4-fluorophenyl)-1-pyrazol-3-yl]benzamide), a novel and selective TRPM8 antagonist, to assess its therapeutic potential against frequent urination in rat models with overactive bladder (OAB). In calcium influx assays with HEK293T cells transiently expressing various TRP channels, KPR-5714 showed a potent TRPM8 antagonistic effect and high selectivity against other TRP channels.

Thyroglobulin doubling-time (TgDT) is a powerful prognostic predictor in patients with DTC. We aimed to evaluate the value of the dynamic TgDT for early detection of progressive disease (PD) in the patients of metastatic DTC with I radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy.
