Study Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect, safety, and clinical outcomes of focused transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the evaluation of critically ill patients in the emergency department (ED) and ICUs.
Methods: We established a prospective, multicenter, observational registry involving adult critically ill patients in whom focused TEE was performed for evaluation of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), inhospital cardiac arrest, evaluation of undifferentiated shock, hemodynamic monitoring, and/or procedural guidance in the ED, ICU, or operating room setting. The primary objective of the current investigation was to evaluate the clinical influence and safety of focused, point-of-care TEE in critically ill patients.
Extensive work has shown that stress time-dependently influences hippocampus-dependent learning and memory. In particular, stress that is administered immediately before learning enhances long-term memory, while stress that is temporally separated from learning impairs long-term memory. We have extended these findings by examining the impact of immediate, pre-learning stress on an amygdala-dependent fear conditioning task.

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) was transformed with a peanut (Arachis hypogaea) cDNA encoding resveratrol synthase (RS) transcriptionally regulated by an enhanced Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter. A sorghum cDNA clone has been isolated that encodes a protein containing six imperfect leucine-rich repeats (LRRs) of approximately 22 amino acids in length. The putative protein, designated SLRR, also contains a signal peptide, and six potential N-glycosylation sites. Comparisons of SLRR and its LRR consensus sequences found significant homology to the extracellular binding domains of receptor-protein kinases RLK5 and TMK1 of Arabidopsis, and some plant disease resistance genes.
