Nurses' and patient' descriptions about forms of power in pro re nata medication participation in forensic psychiatric care: A qualitative secondary analysis.

Despite there being an emphasis on patient participation in their own care, it has been a challenge in pro re nata (PRN, as the circumstance arises) medication in forensic psychiatric care. The power imbalance in treatment relationships can be a barrier to patient participation and should therefore be further explored. This qualitative descriptive study aimed to explore the aspect of power in the descriptions of patients and nurses interviewed in a Finnish forensic psychiatric hospital about patient participation in PRN.

Online training to improve evidence-based leadership competencies among nurse leaders in Finland and China: study protocols for two randomised feasibility trials.

Introduction: This study protocol describes two randomised feasibility trials that will evaluate the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of an online training course to improve evidence-based leadership competences among nurse leaders working in hospitals in Finland and China.

Methods And Analysis: Two randomised, parallel-group studies will be conducted separately: one in Finland (n=140) and one in China (n=160). Nurse leaders who fulfil the eligibility criteria will be randomly allocated (1:1) to participate in either the online evidence-based leadership training or conventional online training (reading material only).

Recovery-oriented mental health principles in psychiatric hospitals: How service users, family members and staff perceive the realization of practices.

Aims: The aim of the study was to describe and compare how recovery-oriented mental health principles have been realized in Finnish psychiatric hospitals from the viewpoint of different stakeholders (service users, family members and staff).

Design: A multimethod research design was adopted to combine both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods.

Methods: A total of 24 focus group interviews were conducted with service users (n = 33), family members (n = 3) and staff (n = 53) on 12 psychiatric Finnish hospital wards (October 2017).

Developing a Feasible and Credible Method for Analyzing Healthcare Documents as Written Data.

Healthcare provides a rich, and constantly increasing, number of written documents, which are underutilized in research data for health and nursing sciences, but previous literature has only provided limited guidance on the process of document analysis. The aim of this paper is to provide a methodological framework for analyzing health care documents as written data, based on a systematic methodological review and the research team's experience of the method. Based on the results, the methods consist of seven phases: (i) identify the purpose, (ii) determine the document selection strategy, (iii) select or design an extraction matrix, (iv) carry out pilot testing, (v) collect and analyze the data, (vi) consider the credibility, and (vii) ethics of the study.

Introduction: The well-being and health of healthcare personnel is becoming increasingly important in the delivery of high-quality healthcare. The recent developments in technology have provided new opportunities for the objective detection of a wide variety of real-world properties and movement. However, technologies that are used to monitor health, well-being and movement among healthcare personnel have not been fully synthesised.

Measured and perceived impacts of evidence-based leadership in nursing: a mixed-methods systematic review protocol.

Introduction: Despite the abundance of existing literature on evidence-based nursing practice, knowledge regarding evidence-based leadership, that is, leadership supported by an evidence-based approach, is lacking. Our aim is to conduct a mixed-methods systematic review with qualitative and quantitative studies to examine how evidence is used to solve leadership problems and to describe the measured and perceived effects of evidence-based leadership on nurses and nurse leaders and their performance as well as on organisational and clinical outcomes.

Patient participation in pro re nata medication in psychiatric inpatient settings: An integrative review.

Pro re nata (PRN) medication is widely used and studied in psychiatric care, but our knowledge about patient participation in its administration is fragmented. The aim of this integrative review was to describe and synthesize previous knowledge of patient participation in PRN in psychiatric inpatient settings. We conducted both electronic and manual searches, using the CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, and PubMed databases, and eight scientific journals.
