Background: Different hexapod-based external fixators are increasingly used to treat bone deformities and fractures. Accuracy has not been measured sufficiently for all models.

Methods: An infrared tracking system was applied to measure positioning maneuvers with a motorized Precision Hexapod® fixator, detecting three-dimensional positions of reflective balls mounted in an L-arrangement on the fixator, simulating bone directions.

Article Synopsis
  • Nonoperative treatment is typically used for clavicle fractures, but recent research shows better outcomes with surgery for displaced ones, prompting a study on surgeon treatment preferences.
  • Anonymized case reviews of 50 clavicle fractures were evaluated by 32 orthopedic surgeons to analyze their treatment decisions and how they stack up against current recommendations, revealing fair to moderate agreement among them.
  • Results indicated that while a majority (91%) aligned with recent guidelines favoring surgery for certain cases, there is still room for improvement in both consensus and individual decision-making reliability among surgeons.
