A water/supercritical CO(2) microemulsion (W/scCO(2) microE) with methyl orange (MO) and sodium bis(1H,1H,2H,2H-heptadecafluorodecyl)-2-sulfosuccinate, 8FS(EO)(2), was characterized by means of UV-visible absorption spectral and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements. Visual observation of the scCO(2) mixtures revealed transparent and reddish scCO(2) phases with and without separated excess water; they were identified as Winsor-II and Winsor-IV W/scCO(2) microE, respectively. The polarities of the aqueous cores in the Winsor-IV W/scCO(2) microE were examined by observing the spectral shift of the absorbance maximum of MO.

CD20 expression after treatment with anti-CD20 antibody (rituximab, Rx) for DLBCL was examined in 23 cases who received serial biopsy by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and flow cytometry (FCM). CD20- by IHC and/or FCM was defined as CD20-.

We investigated the long-term efficacy of H. pylori eradication in 30 cases with ITP that were included in our previous study regarding the association between H.

Saliva sampling was performed during three different sessions occurring in three nonconsecutive 24-h periods. Sixteen healthy adult beagle dogs (8 males and 8 females) were moved to a sampling room and housed individually in cages.

The block copolymers, PS(n)-b-PAMS(m), were prepared as follows: (i) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (PS-Br), (ii) ATRP of vinylbenzylphthalimide with the PS-Br (PS-b-PVBP), and (iii) treatment of the PS-b-PVBP with hydrazine. When the dispersion polymerization of styrene proceeded at 60 degrees C in ethanol with PS(19)-b-PAMS(130) stabilizer, spherical polystyrene particles with D(n)=0.

Therefore, the Japanese Society of Hematology (JSH) has discussed establishing a registry of hematologic disorders, in order to contribute to improving the quality of treatments and clinical outcomes in this field. As a first step, the Timely and Appropriate Registration System for GLIVEC Therapy (TARGET), a registration system for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients treated with imatinib, was established in October 2003.

Hirudin, an extract from the leech, has powerful antithrombin activity affecting the blood coagulation pathway. We evaluated the usefulness of hirudin in anticoagulating specimens for routine laboratory tests. Results using blood anticoagulated with hirudin corresponded well with results with blood treated with ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) in the complete blood count (CBC), including white blood cell (WBC) differential count and morphology of blood cells, when CBC was performed within 2 h of blood collection.

At present, bone marrow analysis is performed microscopically, but is time consuming and labour intensive. No automated methods have been successfully applied to classification of bone marrows cells because automated blood cell analysers have been incapable of identifying erythroblasts. The present study was designed to evaluate automated analysis of bone marrow aspirates with the CELL-DYN 4000 (CD4000) haematology analyser, which enables automated determination of erythroblast counts in both the normal mode (haemolytic time; 11.

The newly developed XE-2100 haematology analyser can provide complete blood counts, leukocyte differentials, perform reticulocyte analysis, and obtain quantitative data on nucleated red blood cells (NRBCs). In this study, we evaluated the basic performance of this instrument using routinely obtained blood specimens treated with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-2K. Reproducibility, carryover, stability during storage at 4 degrees C and room temperature, and accuracy were evaluated.

Method: Between January 2002 and December 2003, women with primary breast cancer who had a breast tumor measuring larger than 3 cm in unilateral diameter were eligible for NAC. All patients who had completed NAC underwent lymphatic mapping with labeled (99m)Tc phytate on the day before surgery.
Osteopontin (OPN) is a multi-functional cytokine which is involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disease. We previously reported that thrombin-cleaved form of OPN plays a pathogenic role in murine model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by using neutralizing antibody (M5) reacting against the cryptic epitope within OPN, exposed by thrombin cleavage of OPN. It has been shown that OPN-deficient mice are susceptible to various infections, demonstrating the protective role of OPN against various infectious diseases.

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) with various substituents were added into polystyrene (PS) thin films as the nanofillers. The dewetting rate of the films drastically changed with the surface substituents of POSS additives.

However, it is not feasible in daily clinical practice to accurately determine the LT in all patients with COPD. There is no simple, practical and non-invasive index for determining the time at which rehabilitation should start.

In occasional cases, tumour cells show an interfollicular pattern of proliferation preserving lymph follicles. The aim was to analyse clinicopathological findings in DLBCL showing an interfollicular pattern of proliferation to determine whether this type of lymphoma is a distinct entity of DLBCL.

The combination of microchip electrophoresis for substrate and hydrolysate separation and an immunoinhibition method for the differentiation of isoenzyme activities using antihuman salivary amylase (S-AMY) mAb allowed the highly selective determination of amylase isoenzyme (S-AMY and pancreatic amylase (P-AMY)) activities even in a complex matrix such as a crude plasma sample. We used 8-aminopyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid (APTS)-labeled maltohexaose (G6) as a substrate.

Early recognition of patients at high risk of developing BOS/IPS may lead to improving the outcome of allo-HSCT. We retrospectively analyzed serum surfactant protein A, D (SP-A, -D) and Kerbs von Lungren 6 Ag (KL-6) levels before allo-HSCT in 56 patients who survived more than 90 days after allo-HSCT and compared values of these serum markers and other transplant factors in BOS/IPS patients with those in non-BOS/IPS patients.

Methodology: A total of 44 eligible patients with acute asthma of mild to moderate severity who had acute attacks were randomly allocated to a NPPV (n=30) or control group (n=14). Both groups received intravenous infusion of hydrocortisone prior to the study.
A living cell has numerous proteins, only a few thousand of which have been identified to date. Cell-free protein synthesis is a useful and promising technique to discover and produce various proteins that might be beneficial for biotechnological, pharmaceutical, and medical applications. For this study, we evaluated the performance and the general applicability of our previously developed microreactor array chip to cell-free protein synthesis by comparisons with a commercially available system.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiography and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography clearly depict the biliary anatomy but are considered invasive procedures. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography is noninvasive but sometimes fails to depict the normal intrahepatic bile ducts.
