A water/supercritical CO(2) microemulsion (W/scCO(2) microE) with methyl orange (MO) and sodium bis(1H,1H,2H,2H-heptadecafluorodecyl)-2-sulfosuccinate, 8FS(EO)(2), was characterized by means of UV-visible absorption spectral and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements. Visual observation of the scCO(2) mixtures revealed transparent and reddish scCO(2) phases with and without separated excess water; they were identified as Winsor-II and Winsor-IV W/scCO(2) microE, respectively. The polarities of the aqueous cores in the Winsor-IV W/scCO(2) microE were examined by observing the spectral shift of the absorbance maximum of MO.

The purpose of this study was to determine if salivary chromogranin a secretion in dogs exhibits a circadian rhythm. Saliva sampling was performed during three different sessions occurring in three nonconsecutive 24-h periods. Sixteen healthy adult beagle dogs (8 males and 8 females) were moved to a sampling room and housed individually in cages.

Effects of polystyrene-b-poly(aminomethyl styrene)s as stabilizers on dispersion polymerization of styrene in alcoholic media.

The newly developed XE-2100 haematology analyser can provide complete blood counts, leukocyte differentials, perform reticulocyte analysis, and obtain quantitative data on nucleated red blood cells (NRBCs). Control of dispersion state of silsesquioxane nanofillers for stabilization of polystyrene thin films.

The influence of the dispersion states of the nanofillers on the dewetting behavior of the polymer thin film was investigated. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) with various substituents were added into polystyrene (PS) thin films as the nanofillers. Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) and idiopathic pneumonia syndrome (IPS) cause high mortality and impaired survival after allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Early recognition of patients at high risk of developing BOS/IPS may lead to improving the outcome of allo-HSCT. We retrospectively analyzed serum surfactant protein A, D (SP-A, -D) and Kerbs von Lungren 6 Ag (KL-6) levels before allo-HSCT in 56 patients who survived more than 90 days after allo-HSCT and compared values of these serum markers and other transplant factors in BOS/IPS patients with those in non-BOS/IPS patients.

Objective: We hypothesized that non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) would improve an acute asthma attack in mild to moderate cases without bronchodilator therapy.

Methodology: A total of 44 eligible patients with acute asthma of mild to moderate severity who had acute attacks were randomly allocated to a NPPV (n=30) or control group (n=14). Both groups received intravenous infusion of hydrocortisone prior to the study.
