Weyl semimetals are a novel class of topological materials with unique electronic structures and distinct properties. HfRhGe stands out as a noncentrosymmetric Weyl semimetal with unconventional superconducting characteristics. Using muon-spin rotation and relaxation (µSR) spectroscopy and thermodynamic measurements, a fully gapped superconducting state is identified in HfRhGe that breaks time-reversal symmetry at the superconducting transition.

Many relevant substrate targets are hydrophobic (such as recalcitrant biomass) and pose a challenge for modular functionalization. The increasing prevalence of children not identifying with their sex at birth, the length and outdated language of existing gender identity measures, and the need to assess gender identity among children (as opposed to adolescent/adult measures) motivate a screener. The ambipolar diffusion approximation is used to model partially ionized plasma dynamics in a single-fluid setting. To correctly apply the commonly used version of ambipolar diffusion, a set of criteria should be satisfied including the requirement that the difference in velocity between charges and neutral species (known as drift velocity) is much smaller than the thermal velocity, otherwise the drift velocity will drive a non-negligible level of further collisions between the two species. In this paper, we explore the consequences of relaxing this assumption.

Oclacitinib is an oral therapy indicated for pruritus associated with allergic or atopic dermatitis in dogs. There is a growing population of autistic adults in need of supports from a service delivery system that, at present, fails to accommodate their needs adequately and equitably. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of trained behavioral health service providers to meet the needs of young autistic adults. Quality of life (QoL), or one's perception of, and satisfaction with, life in relation to held goals and expectations, has been identified as a key outcome of interest by autistic self-advocates.

Hypotheses/objectives: Using experimental vignettes, we explored the impact on owner perception of the interaction of treatment complexity and skin disease outcomes. We hypothesised that: (i) vignette conditions involving injection therapy would result in lower burden, better veterinary-client relationship and greater satisfaction relative to multimodal therapy conditions; (ii) the vignette condition of injection therapy with a completely effective outcome would be superior to all other conditions; (iii) ineffective vignette conditions would be inferior to all other conditions; and (iv) the vignette condition injection with a mostly effective outcome would be similar or superior to the multimodal therapy with a completely effective outcome condition.
Introduction: Dogs with allergic dermatitis often suffer concurrent skin and ear infections. The objective of this study was to retrospectively quantify the number of systemic and topical antimicrobial transactions in dogs with allergic dermatitis, following administration of oclacitinib or a glucocorticoid, compared to dogs that did not receive a pruritus therapy when there is an initial diagnosis of pyoderma. A secondary objective was to demonstrate that dogs on oclacitinib use fewer antimicrobials and concomitant therapies over time and have improved quality of life.

The Whistle FIT, a wearable accelerometer paired with analytics, can detect changes in pruritic activity in dogs, which can be reported to owners in a smartphone/tablet application. Until now, this was the largest contributor to the measurement uncertainty of nitrous oxide in air reference materials at atmospheric amount fractions (∼330 nmol mol), as identified in a recent international comparison. A novel preconcentration method has resulted in a measurement of 363 pmol mol of nitrous oxide in a synthetic air matrix gas with an expanded uncertainty of 27 pmol mol.

The search of quantum spin liquid (QSL), an exotic magnetic state with strongly fluctuating and highly entangled spins down to zero temperature, is a main theme in current condensed matter physics. With a low side effect reporting level of < 5% and high level of comfort there may be complacency and underestimation of the impact side effects of corticosteroids may have on a pet and pet owner.
Objective: The objective of this clinical study was to describe the experience and perception of an owner who administered anti-inflammatory doses of oral prednisolone and prednisone to their dog for up to 14 days.
Background: Orthopedic walker boots are often used to treat foot ulcers and other wounds with the goal of offloading plantar pressure. However, poor ulcer healing outcomes and high recurrence rates show a need for additional solutions in the growing diabetes epidemic. View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice (SP2) designed an asynchronous online course about racism and cultural competence to address student concerns about harmful interactions with peers across race/ethnicity. The Penn Experience Course establishes common language and concepts to facilitate difficult conversations about racism in the classroom and clinical spaces.
Methods: The course included six modules addressing the history of racism in the Philadelphia area and at the University of Pennsylvania: implicit bias and microaggressions; racism and other forms of oppression; gender identity and sexuality; construction of whiteness and white supremacy ideology; cultural humility, disparities, and equity; and access in healthcare.
Background: Increasing complexity of treatment plans is associated with higher levels of caregiver burden in owners of dogs with skin disease. It is possible that elevated caregiver burden resulting from treatment complexity could, in turn, affect the veterinarian-client relationship.
Hypotheses/objectives: We expected that treatment complexity, caregiver burden, and the client's perception of the veterinarian-client relationship would be related to each other.
Magnetism induced by defects in nominally non-magnetic solids has attracted intense scientific interest in recent years. The local magnetism in highly disordered undoped and Co-doped topological insulator (TI) BiSenanoplates has been investigated by muon spin relaxation (SR). UsingSR spectroscopy, together with other macroscopic characterizations, we find that these nanoplates are composed of a core with both static fields and dynamically fluctuating moments, and a shell with purely dynamically fluctuating moments.

Herein, we present biofilm EPS-functionalized single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) probes for rapid screening of hydrolytic enzyme selectivity and activity on EPS. The extent of biofilm EPS degradation is quantified by monitoring the quenching of the SWCNT fluorescence.
